Thinking about #Shaw: Kennedy Rec Center
There’s been investment & programming but is it meeting its full potential as a neighborhood anchor?
Feels like a real opportunity to reimagine the park areas especially: more uses, better placemaking & a more beautiful/engaging space.

Thinking about #Shaw: development opportunities🧵
Some of the biggest gaps in the corridor aren’t small storefronts; they’re vacant or underused sites w big potential.
Foster House, Shiloh’s vacants, HFA at 9th & U, parking lots on 9th, 7th & P etc

Oyster Oyster chef Rob Rubba wrote a nice essay on the pressure inside kitchens in the wake of the Noma abuse allegations.

Thinking about #Shaw: the relocated National Children’s Museum
With the Convention Center, hotels, Metro access, schools, etc, Shaw could be a great spot for this family-oriented anchor.
It could bring more daytime energy to the corridor.

Curious what others think.
Are there other parts of #Shaw where a more intentional mix of businesses could help strengthen the corridor?

Thinking about #Shaw: targeted business recruitment
Shaw’s not 1 corridor — it’s several distinct districts. A 1-size-fits-all approach doesn’t work.
What if we were more intentional about the kinds of businesses that fit different parts of the neighborhood?

Thinking about #Shaw: events
Farmers markets, street festivals, and other programming that bring people onto the street — and into neighborhood businesses — can make a big difference.
What events would you like to see more of?
