@aHzmX54POm34788 @erkenglish I'm not sure what "have their own value" means here. Is the auto-translate being unhelpful?

@ShawnaCanon @erkenglish 四季全部に価値があるのは日本の特徴ではあるよね。
欧州なんて秋が1週間もない感じがする😂

@erkenglish The four seasons thing is kind of the opposite of the Independence Day thing. The four seasons thing is thinking that something universal (or at least widespread globally) is unique to Japan. The other is thinking that something unique to the US is universal. Both are ignorant.

@hoshizorarock The only time condiments should be added to meat like this is if the meat is very low quality or if it accidentally got overcooked and you're trying not to waste it.

Would you add ketchup, mustard, or mayonnaise? 🤔

@IGADON2 Don't even bother with the theatrical version. The extended edition is the real film. Watching the theatrical cut is like reading an abridged book.
English

@RedRebeccax Absolutely not. For a lot of the same reasons I refuse to use Uber/Lyft.
English

@mrjeffu I'm curious, in this case where they have a bunch of big bags they need to set down and there's no clear space until 3ft. past the red line, how would Japanese people handle setting their stuff down so they can take off their shoes?
English

@Black_D_Gamer1 Guess this helps explain why I, a woman, didn't click with TLoU, while my brother loved it.

This is the MAIN appeal of The Last of Us!
It was basically a "Sad Dad Simulator", and it tapped into men's natural instincts to provide & protect.
Many men relate to Joel, because he represented what all men want to be. A father. This is why so many people hated TLOU2.

Lirae@IlyaLirae
These kind of games will never fail to warm my heart. I adore the concept of fathers caring and protecting their daughter whether biological or adopted. It's so wholesome.

@VonBoxerlund @nichigeckoh Not really possible when the fanfic is steeped deeply in the lore/magic/worldbuilding of the fandom it's based on. (I read a novel where someone did that, it was super obvious, and the reviews said so.) Though there are ways to cannibalize original elements for original works.
English

@ShawnaCanon @nichigeckoh Change all the names and start sending it to publishers.
English

@koshian "a strong personal color" ... Maybe this is the auto-translate being weird, but do you really think that Japanese authors are the only ones who pour themselves into their works? Is this another "four seasons is Japanese culture" thing?
English

Shorono@_Shorono_
@oshino_sasuke While a westerner who has a culture based on conscience and confessing to your sins see the Japanese and think: "If you are pirating anyways, at least have the honor to admit it." It is fundamentally a different culture.

@RadioGenoa It's weird how he has his hands all over her. Do male politicians touch each other this much? At the end he goes to put his arm around her and she changes it to a hand clasp instead. She didn't look thrilled with the cheek kisses either.
English

@yungjamezareal1 It's weird how "reading the air" just means "be psychic". I've read so many manga where whole plot elements hinge on misunderstandings caused by people not clearly saying something and/or incorrectly assuming someone else's thoughts/intent/reaction.
English

@tanpukunokami I read a lot of shojo, and the 'confession' scenes are usually something I enjoy. It's such a foreign way of doing things. Sometimes the other person is like, "Who are you?" Seems like they should know each other first before trying to date. Can be good comedy/drama though.
English

This might be hard to believe, but
In Japan,
you can't just "start dating" someone.
There is a formal confession. Called "kokuhaku."
You say "I like you. Please go out with me."
Out loud. To their face.
If they say yes, you are now officially dating.
Not before.
There is no "so… what are we?" phase.
Japan skipped it.
With a system.
English

@AOIKEN72 You just described the overwhelmingly vast majority of Western novelists, artists, and other creators.
English

@GladeRiven @m_takewaka There are different accents and manners of speech, but that doesn't make them dialects. English globally has very few actual dialects.
English

@ShawnaCanon @m_takewaka Listen to Charlie Berens VS Larry the Cable Guy. Yes, there are real people who talk like that don't'cha know.
English

@skyred001 "You should learn about the world."

Sure, bud.

キリスト教とかいうドマイナーなカルト宗教はうちの国では一般的では無いんだよ。

Anime is inherently right wing and Christian. Do you agree?

@GamewithDave On PC? Lemmings. Why can I not find good quality, easy to access copies with decent controls? This should be a series that we still get new entries in. Why did it vanish?
