Today, we welcomed back 25 engineers from the Ministry of Water Resources Development of Somaliland who successfully completed their training in Israel. This program will significantly contribute to our ongoing efforts to strengthen and develop the water sector. I was pleased to participate, representing the Ministry of Water Resources Development of Somaliland, in the signing of the 2026–2027 Work Plan between the Government of Somaliland and UNICEF.

We are proud to conclude a successful training program for 25 engineers from the Ministry of Water Development of Somaliland, including three outstanding women professionals. This initiative has strengthened our technical capacity in water management and engineering. We extend our sincere appreciation to the Government of Israel and our partners @MASHAVisrael @EynatShlein and @MATCShefayim @IsraelMFA for their support and commitment to knowledge sharing. Together, we continue building a stronger and more resilient water sector for the future.

𝐀 𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐜 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭: 𝐒𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝’𝐬 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫-𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐈𝐬𝐫𝐚𝐞𝐥 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐬 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐄𝐫𝐚 𝐨𝐟 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. I am pleased to share a brief reflection on our recent official visit to the State of Israel, which was focused on exploring practical and sustainable solutions to address water scarcity in Somaliland. During our visit, we had the honor of meeting with the Israel Water Authority, where we engaged in productive discussions on advanced water resource planning, regulatory frameworks, and integrated water management systems. Furthermore, we held a constructive meeting with Dr. Eynat, Head of @MASHAV Israel's Agency for International Development Cooperation focusing on strengthening technical cooperation and institutional capacity building for Somaliland's water sector. As part of the technical program, we visited a major desalination plant to gain a deeper understanding of large-scale seawater desalination technology. We also toured the Mekorot National Command and Control Center, where Israel's national water network is centrally monitored, digitally controlled, and efficiently managed. In addition, we observed advanced wastewater treatment and water reuse systems at Water West Management and Treatment, acquiring valuable insights into water recycling, efficiency, and sustainability. It was also a great honor to pay a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel @IsraelMFA , where we were warmly received by Dr. Eden, Director of the Division for Asia and the Pacific, in his office. This meeting reflected the deepening diplomatic ties between Somaliland and Israel. Finally, we are proud to note that this delegation marks the first official visit at the Director General level to Israel following recent diplomatic recognition.

It was an honour to attend an international water conference in London, organized by @BHydroSoc & @UK_CEH.Discussions focused on global water challenges drought, changing rainfall patterns, groundwater management, and pollution and the role of the UK in strengthening global water solutions.

These are some of our dedicated engineers from the Ministry of Water Resources Development during their field assessment. Their professionalism, teamwork, and commitment to improving Somaliland’s water sector truly inspire me. Thank you all for your excellent work.
