Ghana has ruled out the automatic renewal of South African company, Gold Fields' mining lease for Tarkwa Mine.
Tarkwa Mine produces $1 billion worth of gold annually with 427,000 ounces of gold in 2025.
The lease will expire next year.

If you are Ghanaian and think South Africans will one day beg Ghanaians to visit their country, then you are highly delusional. Our leaders followed greed, and now South African companies supply over 80% of Ghana’s internet traffic.
As we always say, every decision our leaders make today will have an impact in the future, whether positive or negative. While we politicize everything here with NPP and NDC legacy debates, we should also think about Ghana’s long term future so that South Africa does not continue to look like a land of opportunity for Ghanaians.
The difference is not simply that they are richer than us. The difference is infrastructure, industrialization, investment, and long term planning.
