Most pensioners will only need a small income over and above the State Pension to be liable for income tax. But I accept your point. So I've gone away and tried again. Introduce a minimum qualifying period for paying income tax for those who have lost their job, retired, or are otherwise incapacitated. I'm amazed that so many people are taking my tongue-in-cheek suggestion so seriously. Especially those who are obviously worried by it!
