@dynamolights @Amid_Tony @Ofenpog @ddofinternet Yes we do. We're already making plans to move in 2026 to somewhere where we don't need to own a car at all. One more note here, we did actually look at apartments in the area first, but couldn't find a single one that was setup for us to plug in our EV (our only car)

What I’ve learned about the UK is that if you want to go somewhere and it’s a 20 min walk or less, you walk. I have never walked so much in my life.

@DentonGripes @dTXTransitPosts I was waiting to turn onto West Hickory, but the GoZone driver was stopped in the right lane and their passengers were getting out of the vehicle into the left lane. So I stayed put and got out my phone to take a picture

“While Mayor, I was often asked ‘how have you been able to afford this in #Copenhagen?’ I’d reply, ‘how have you been able to NOT afford it? 25 years ago we were a few days away from going bankrupt. So the city invested in the cheapest infrastructure… bicycling.” — @mortenkabell

@JeffSpeckFAICP So I agree that widening doesn't increase safety, but what would be the best action here, where adding a church to an already busy road will increase traffic?

This, like so much DOT propaganda, is an outright lie, directly contradicted by all evidence, and deserving of a class action lawsuit in every state. No road widening has ever had any safety impact other than increasing injuries and deaths.

NEW: Exxon-Mobil and Chevron raked in massive first quarter profits— Chevron took in $6.3 billion, quadrupling its profit from this time last year, while Exxon took in $5.5 billion, more than double last year’s profit.

Cars kill over 1.3 million people every year, and we somehow accept this as the cost of doing business. If airplanes killed 1.3M people a year, we would ground all airplanes until we figure out what went wrong. So why do we accept such horrifying outcomes with cars?

@bikedenton My wife, who came here as an international student and got everywhere in her home county via public transit, was in one of these (thankfully non-injury) accidents. Helping her learn to drive has been an eye opening experience.

Paris has provided a model for “how other cities can rapidly re-allocate street space to more sustainable travel, and/or speed the installation of existing bike plans rather than proceeding via a more incremental and delayed approach.” bit.ly/3uDoiEa

@dTXTransitPosts As far as public transit goes, we have none. We're off Teasley near Hickory Creek, and the Denton "Zone" doesn't include us, even though I'm sure our taxes pay for it. I understood us not being on a bus route when we moved here, but being excluded from on-demand feels wrong.

@dTXTransitPosts We're only 1.4 miles from the nearest grocery store. We've walked it once, but as soon as we leave our neighborhood there are no sidewalks so we end up having to walk through the grass and even through a constrution site. We've biked, but no sidewalk and no bike lane feels unsafe

@mateosfo We didn’t have universal k-12 education before cars. You will not be able to change people’s behavior if you focus only on the cost of something and ignore the value it provides.

For those of us a certain age, it seems inconceivable now how much of our youth was spent fixated on quick sand and what to do if caught in it. What was that about? Did it go away? Was just explaining it to a kid and he thinks we were all on drugs. Were we? It was huge deal then.

Imagine having enough money to spend on a billboard and thinking the best thing to do is chide kids for walking, instead of reminding adults in multi-ton cars of their legal obligations.
