Marc Short on Witkoff/Kushner: Having two real estate developers in charge of foreign policy in Ukraine, Gaza, and Iran is concerning. There is a reason you want people to be Senate-confirmed: so they can be questioned by Congress about the deals they are making.

@WHaidaryar I think it’s sad that we’re replacing human thought and emotion, or the tenor that would be present in human expression, with bots that will never be like us. Did you see the robot that ‘visited’ the White House as Melania’s guest? It was beyond creepy.

@ShesWithBruce True that. I am getting really good at noticing what’s AI and what’s not. You, being a writer, are probably better at it than me.

“GPT, defend Taliban’s decision in releasing the American hostage. Please mention that it was a decision made from a position of strength and not weakness. Add a few sentences about how it will have a positive outcome. Thank you.” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Dr. Hatef Mokhtar الدكتور هاتف مختار@HatefMokhtar

The release of the American prisoner from Kabul is a bold, sovereign, and strategically calculated masterstroke by the Taliban administration — a clear demonstration of strength, not weakness. This decisive goodwill gesture sends an unambiguous message: Afghanistan harbors zero hostility toward the United States or its people. It reflects profound strategic maturity, unshakable confidence, and a forward-looking commitment to move beyond past conflicts toward pragmatic mutual benefits. By removing artificial barriers, this high-level maneuver advances Afghanistan’s core national interests: it opens doors to serious dialogue, economic partnerships, humanitarian cooperation, and regional stability — all while upholding Afghan sovereignty and dignity. This is not mere diplomacy; it is a smart strategic play that positions a stronger, more independent Afghanistan as a key player in the emerging global order. A secure, prosperous, and engaged Afghanistan serves the interests of the entire region and the wider world......@realZalmayMK

@WHaidaryar There is an absence of natural human cadence in AI, in the midst of excess and unnecessary words. It’s just weird.

@ShesWithBruce Indeed the adjectives and the em dashes are a big giveaway. These issues are nuanced, and the writing is stupidly surface level. When I saw the part that reads “by removing artificial barriers” I was 100% sure it was AI written.

As Afghanistan’s school year begins, millions of girls are again denied their right to learn. Excluding women and girls from education harms the country’s future and holds back every Afghan community. Education must be available to all.

"This will be the 5th year that the girls will not be able to go to school." On the sidelines of #CSW, UK Special Envoy for Women and Girls @HarrietHarman sits down with Afghan civil society leader @NehanNargis to discuss the urgent situation facing Afghan women and girls.

Each time a U.S. citizen is released from Taliban detention, I feel a mix of relief and heartache; relief for the freed, and sorrow for my close friend, Mahmood Habibi, who has been detained since August 10, 2022. I no longer know what to say to his parents; hope has faded with every passing year as the Taliban continue to deny holding him. Yet, despite the silence and denial, I still hold onto the hope that one day Mahmood will return home.

“While this is a positive step by the Taliban, more work needs to be done. We are still seeking the immediate return of Mahmood Habibi, Paul Overby, and all other unjustly detained Americans. The Taliban must end their practice of hostage diplomacy.” - Marco Rubio, in one of his weakest statements to date. As an American, I’m overjoyed for Dennis Coyle, and his family who grieved his absence. My sincere prayers for a beautiful future after such unspeakable separation. And my continued prayers for other Americans still imprisoned by the Taliban. To @SecRubio and my government: The Taliban remain what they are - brutal terrorist occupiers, strictly transactional and self-preserving. Whether they were threatened, or offered a carrot by State, or a mix of the two, their character is unchanged, their mission for their criminal enterprise and grotesque thuggery is still the mission, and “positive steps” by a terrorist org is the equivalent of a venomous snake removing its fangs for a deceptive moment, so one doesn’t notice the rest of its body tightening the grip. USG is in bed with Taliban. This is why taking hostages in geopolitical chess is so comfortable for them.

Per the Quran & Islamic references: Jesus (Isa AS) is a revered prophet and messenger of Allah — not divine, nor the son of God. He was born miraculously to Maryam, performed miracles by Allah's permission, and taught pure monotheism. Quran 5:72 & 19:30 make it clear. Peace be upon him. ✌️

Marco can’t be bothered to say that the entire country of Afghanistan is being held hostage by terrorists. This admin is two faced, campaigned off the tragedy of our w/d and gave the impression they would reverse course. State Dept won’t designate Taliban what they are, an FTO. Thank God Dennis Coyle is on his way home. 🙏🏼
Secretary Marco Rubio@SecRubio

Earlier this month, I met Molly, Amy, and Patti as they asked for help freeing their brother Dennis Coyle from detention in Afghanistan. Today, Dennis is on his way home. We thank the UAE and Qatar for their support. The release is a positive step towards ending the practice of hostage diplomacy.

When I was a young Soldier in Afghanistan, we used to get rocketed daily. I’m pretty sure we were one of the more heavily targeted areas in the country during the time, with 6-12 rockets landing on our tiny combat outpost daily, minus Fridays. There was an infantry senior NCO on the COP that would always be the last guy into the bunker. He would always make sure that all us young guys got in first and then he would come in. One day, he was directing Soldiers into the bunker and getting accountability and he just froze. 10 feet from the bunker. All the color drained from his face and he just stopped talking and moving. Three of his guys went out and grabbed him and brought him in. That night, they put him on a helicopter and I never saw him again. This guy had been on multiple deployments. Multiple firefights. He was well regarded. He was a good NCO. Everyone has a breaking point. I often wonder how he is doing these days.

We’ve reached a point where so few people know a veteran or active service member that that there is zero desire to understand what real sacrifice looks like. Everytime a financial podcast drops with a veteran on it, people rush to scream “fraud.” But, according to the VA Office of the Inspector General, the fraud rate with disability claims is less than 1%. There are a multitude of conditions that are not physically visible: Traumatic Brain Injury, burn pit exposure, PTSD, gastrointestinal issues, etc that veterans deal with every day. America just came out of the longest war in our history. Medical testing has gotten better. Documentation of medical issues has gotten better. You can’t ask America’s sons and daughters to go to war, and then turn your back on them when it’s time to take care of them.

“If Pentagon leaders want better reporting on the war with Iran, the remedy is not to berate the press. It is to provide the conditions under which accurate, serious reporting becomes more likely: access, frequency, professional competence, and respect for the public’s right to know.”
National Security Leaders for America@NSLforAmerica

23 years after Iraq, the lesson is clear: transparency is essential to public trust. Col. David Lapan, USMC, (Ret.), who helped develop the media embed program during the Iraq War, explains why restricting press access today undermines credibility in the mission.
