This is true. One thing I have noticed is that many people would never speak to a friend the way they speak to themselves after making a mistake. A friend fails, and we say, “You’ll recover.” We fail, and suddenly we become our own prosecutor, judge, and executioner. Growth requires giving ourselves grace. Nobody learns to walk without falling.
Oku@oku_yungx

Sometimes we’re the ones who treat ourselves the worst especially in times when we’re not doing well. Too often, we look at others with more compassion than we give ourselves. It’s as if we hold ourselves to a harsher standard, as if we had no right to make mistakes. No one can fill that emptiness unless we start building the habit of treating ourselves with the same kindness we’d give to someone we love.

@oku_yungx I’m always the first to tell my friends to be gentle with themselves, but I beat myself up nonstop. Starting small, catching the harsh inner voice and flipping it to kindness. We really do deserve the same grace we give others. Thank you for this reminder.

When it’s a former minister’s family in Ibadan, police mobilise in 3 days and neutralise the kidnappers. When it’s ordinary Nigerians, the same force investigates for weeks or months while families sell land to pay ransoms. Two-tiered security isn’t security at all. It’s a loud advertisement that in Nigeria, your protection depends on who you know, not what the law says. Until the system is forced to treat every citizen’s life as equally valuable, nothing changes. It's so sad!

@NigeriaStories I am never taking the govt or anything our Nigerian leaders say seriously. So how was this case handled swiftly and others takes weeks and sometimes never get resolved?

The key difference isn’t that some bad people happen to be Muslim. It’s that major insecurity drivers in Nigeria that is the Boko Haram, ISWAP, parts of the banditry in the North-West, and certain Fulani militant factions openly declare they’re fighting for Islam. They quote Qur’an/hadith on jihad, demand Sharia law in captured areas, shout “Allahu Akbar” during attacks, and cite Muhammad’s military campaigns as justification. When a Christian commits armed robbery, kidnapping, or fraud, he doesn’t claim Jesus commanded it. There’s no Christian equivalent of “fight the unbelievers until they pay jizya.” The ideology itself is what’s being invoked by the perpetrators, that’s why people connect the dots. Criminals exist in every religion. Organized groups waging religious war don’t.

Christianity isn't blamed when when some persons commit atrocities claiming to be Christians; So why is the insecurity crisis (in Nigeria) being pinned on Islam?

@oku_yungx Preach brother! Marriage should feel like a sanctuary. Man provides the roof, woman keeps her own bag for dignity and peace, no score-keeping, just teamwork. Outsourcing chores so y’all can actually enjoy each other? That's a Chef’s kiss.

NO, I WON’T DO 50-50 WITH YOU AND HERE IS WHY. 🏛️ It is important for a woman to make money, no matter how small. Financial independence is not a trend but it is dignity. Every woman should have something that is hers. But personally? I will not do 50-50 with you. Not because I undervalue her contribution, but because the moment we are discussing marriage and the partner is right, my hustle becomes our hustle. Everything I build is for the family. That is not negotiation but that is conviction. The goal is simple which is to keep each other sane. Keep the home peaceful. Keep the pressure manageable. Whatever oversight functions money can handle like housekeeping, cooking support, logistics I will contract it out wholeheartedly. No ego. No pride. Just solutions. Because there is no joy in suffering. There is no trophy for struggle. A home should be a place of rest, not a battleground of exhaustion. Some people romanticize hardship. I do not. If we can afford comfort, we will choose comfort. If we can buy back time, we will buy it. Love should not feel like punishment. Marriage should not feel like survival. When the foundation is right and the partnership is solid, the only competition in that home is who takes better care of the other. That is the standard I am building towards.
