A hospital in Lagos was holding a woman hostage. Not with guns. With a bill she couldn't pay. She had received treatment. She was well enough to leave. But the hospital wouldn't discharge her until someone settled the balance. So she stayed — trapped in a ward, away from her family, unable to work. This happens every single day in Nigeria. In a country where 97% of the population has no health insurance, a hospital visit can become a prison sentence. The Aproko Doctor Foundation exists because we refused to accept that. Through community-led financing — thousands of everyday Nigerians contributing small amounts monthly — we've built something that looks a lot like insurance, except it belongs to the people: • ₦50M+ paid to hospitals. 100+ patients freed. • 1,500 women screened for cancer in one Abuja weekend — 500 more than planned. • 150 women caught cervical cancer early. Alive today because of a free screening. • Solar power installed in hospital NICUs so incubators don't go dark. • ₦3.1M raised in 4 hours — one tweet, one community, one woman's prosthetic leg. The community is the insurance. We're not waiting for the system to fix itself. We're proving that when people pool their resources — even ₦500 at a time — they can do what budgets and bureaucracies haven't. If you believe healthcare should involve everybody, join us. Contribute: 0139722962 | Sterling Bank | Aproko Doctor Foundation Partner. Share this. Nobody should go broke because of healthcare. #AprokoDoctorFoundation #CommunityLedFinancing #HealthcareInNigeria #The100KClub #PublicHealth #Africa

When I was in med school, my elder brother and I had no accommodation and couldn’t afford a place to stay, so a friend took us to a generator house in the college. That’s where we slept for over two months. Imagine a place covered in black soot from the generator—completely unconducive, with mosquitoes, rats, and all sorts of insects. I had to wake up very early to bathe, and by 6am. I was already in class. For those two months, all my clothes and belongings were kept in a spoilt fellowship bus that was no longer in use, so every morning at 4:30 a.m. I went there to pick my clothes. Bro, life was very tough, but I never stopped smiling. In all, everyone should ensure they brush their teeth twice daily 🦷

For most 35+ single men that want to marry below 25s women, this is what they do. Save up a couple of millions, use it to entice the young women. Make them think that there is plenty somewhere. Then marry them quickly, & start having children in rapid succession. Then they relax & start showing their true color. Money no dey flow again like before. And they would start to force their wives to work and bring money too. Otherwise, hunger go catch them. That is when you'd see that your sister that thought that she married an "odogwu" calling you to beg for money. 10 years later, she'll start to have Grey hairs in her 30s, & wrinkles below her eyes. Then her husband would be doing: "I am the man, if I can't provide, can't she provide?" "Does she want me to die?" "Are there no women that are also providing for their homes?" Most of you can relate to what I have said here. If not you directly, you know at least one married woman that is experiencing this. She could either be your friend, cousin, sister, colleague or neighbor. Except you want to lie to yourselves. End.

The moral blackmail is outdated. Accountability must be directed where it belongs: policy, governance, financing, and system design. Blaming individual empathy does not fix structural collapse. Empathy alone cannot compensate for chronic bed shortages & inadequate emergency infrastructure The need to live a decent life does not negate empathy. It acknowledges labor. No one is insulated from a broken emergency system. Until we fix the structure, tragedies will continue. Dont scapegoat individuals for systemic neglect. We have to fix the system

"If you are a medical professional and someone is brought to your hospital, and you don't care that the person dies, you are an evil person. Your training is incomplete because empathy is part of your training." - @benkoku takes on Ghana's medical system after the death of a hit-and-run victim who was turned away by three hospitals Watch his full rant here: youtu.be/4Y_HfZaRkPc #CitiCBS #NoBedSyndrome #Healthcare #CitiFM

That is why medical scams keep flying on this app and People just allow emotions and illness' pictures cloud their judgment . People always fall victim. Wizarab called for people that have medical needs to drop their complaints so they will be sponsored Close to 1,000 people dropped medical needs. We started interviewing. I interviewed about the first 100, over 80 of them were scams and fraudsters. When I check their pages, they had cashed out from innocent donors and before I know they deactivate. Our people will always put emotions ahead of reasoning and facts.
POOJA!!!@PoojaMedia

It's not out of place again on this app to ask for evidences, investigations & proper medical checks before concluding on r@pe cases. It's not to disrespect the victims but to get to the root of the TRUTHS. Emotions, b!ackmails, att@cks won't be succumbed to henceforth. Ire o

I’m genuinely confused. So after the inflation. After the kidnappings. After months of no light. After tax and fuel hikes. After terrible healthcare. After salaries can’t even keep up with feeding. Election Day comes then: You dress up, You leave your house, You queue under the hot sun, You vote for the same person again. You are not normal. Tell me if I’m wrong.

Whenever people ask why doctors are leaving the country in droves, show them this picture. You spend 10 years saving lives, missing sleep, only to be paid peanuts and ridiculed by the society you're trying to save. The disrespect for healthcare workers in this country is too much. Doctors are humans with families, bills, and ambitions too. You cannot save others if the system is actively drowning you. It really cannot continue like this.

10 years as a Medical Doctor in Nigeria. This is what I could afford. On this particular day some young boys in a Lexus were laughing at me with my tie under the hot sun of Abeokuta. There was no way on earth my salary and side hustle could get me another car. We really need to fix Nigeria for Nigerians not just for a few.
