Sonic CD's Wacky Workbench is a precision platformer stage in disguise, the bouncy floor serving the function of a bottomless pit as it sends you to slow cubbies, UNLESS you hit the few low ceilings scattered across. VERY unique stage, albeit not a very friendly one.

@itzthrow PLEASSSSEEEEEE It's especially annoying in CD cause almost every stage has a Speed Shoes monitor, and with how short Time Attack runs are YOU LISTEN TO THE ABILITY MUSIC MORE THAN THE STAGE MUSIC 😭😭😭

@ShiftMaster53 Every single sonic game existence desperately needs a mod that removes the invincibility, super sonic, and speed shoe music.

@ZachInsomnia I agree with you, but in this case I can't blame people when the controls are so unorthodox. Not the design principles, rather the general game feel is very much so rooted in Doom and first person games as a whole. I didn't fw the game until doing a first person mode playthrough

@CommonSence7987 They do the opposite! Hitting a Dash Panel makes you enter a Spindash state for as long as you keep boosting uninterrupted, making you go faster than boosting normally. This is on top of redirecting yourself which Sonic's normally bad at, so they're actually a VERY useful aid.

@ZachInsomnia Whu-? WHAT ELSE IS THERE TO FOCUS ON 😭😭😭 Like yeah it's cool how you can Time Travel by stringing off the level's main gimmicks, super fun part of the game, BUT THE MAIN THING THAT MAKES THIS VIDEO DISTINCT IS SONIC GETTING STUCK IN THE FLOOR

@ZachInsomnia Dude I like the game too but I don't think being able to clip into the floor in every stage would be a good thing...

@cooliniau Glad you enjoy it. Personally it's hard to wanna limit my levels when the game doesn't let you revoke any upgrades. I also just inherently hate QTE finishers, it takes me out of the fun in racking up combos.

@ShiftMaster53 @TheC0SM1CStar It's pretty much to the point where maxing out Combat & keeping Strength at Lv. 2 or 3 (depending on where you are in the campaign) is pretty much my go-to build for the Werehog henceforth. - ini

@cooliniau @TheC0SM1CStar Haven't replayed the Werehog stages since that first playthrough but yeah, they were alright, kinda fun to get best times in once you've leveled up.

@ShiftMaster53 @TheC0SM1CStar I suppose I should've been specific in referring to the main Action Stages and not just anything lol—Dragon Road Act 2 is not exactly a favorite of mine by any stretch of the means. - ini

@cooliniau @TheC0SM1CStar So, couple things... - This was from my first ever playthrough of HD Unleashed a year ago, when Recomp first dropped (dw I got a computer to play it normally shortly after) - This optional act is so actively abysmal I looked up a speedrun guide to break it lmfao

@TheC0SM1CStar Meh. They're also pretty meh on 360 but these play quite a bit worse. I don't HATE them tho.

Unironically I think Sonic CD would be pretty unanimously liked and not very divisive with two simple changes: - Remove the time limit, and the timer from the HUD as a whole - Make time posts infinite-use instead of single-use (so you can't permanently fail traveling to the past)

@ShiftMaster53 Why did the Action Chain mechanic not come back? The ability to smoothly chain moves together was the bread and butter of the early Boost Formula, giving you more points for doing it just makes sense.

@ZachInsomnia Encore (I think it was worked on by GT's co-lead) Utopia (I know it's a tech demo but it's def one of the big examples) Daybreak (Sorry not sorry lmfao) That's what comes to mind, there aren't many 3D Sonic fan games if we're being honest and these are some of the biggest ones

@ZachInsomnia Would you say you take advantage of closed ceilings often? That feels like an easy way to prevent flying over huge stage chunks.

ZachTheInsomniac - Sonic Daybreak
Tried the best I could for Daybreak demo 2 to prevent “flying over the level syndrome” and I think I did very well despite our lack of air drag When you CAN fly over a small bit of the level, it’s faster to stick to the ground and interact with the environment more
