Autonomous humanoid navigation with depth cameras! 🧭 @RealSenseai, @LimX_Dynamics, and NVIDIA Robotics demonstrated autonomous humanoid navigation at NVIDIA GTC using RealSense depth cameras. Unlike wheeled robots that move across a continuous plane, humanoids move through full three-dimensional motion with constant ground contact. Each step introduces uncertainty from foot slip, changing contact points, dynamic balance shifts, and complex multi-joint articulation. Motor encoder data alone cannot reliably determine position. Even small motion errors accumulate quickly into localization drift. This has historically limited legged robots to teleoperation, supervision, or controlled environments. Rather than relying solely on internal encoder measurements, the LimX Dynamics robot uses visual perception as an external reference for its position in the world. This significantly improves localization stability and navigation reliability. Dense 3D perception from RealSense allows humanoids to detect stairs, curbs, elevation changes, uneven terrain, clutter, dynamic obstacles like people and carts, and clearances around limbs and body motion. RealSense provides dense depth sensing optimized for close- and mid-range perception, low-latency RGB-D data for real-time robotics applications. ~~ ♻️ Join the weekly robotics newsletter, and never miss any news → ziegler.substack.com

is the future value of "open source" code anymore? i believe it's shifting to data, provenance, protocols, evals, and weights. in that order.

Love does not belong to anyone. It is not a possession, nor a choice. It is a presence vast, silent, and self-radiant. It has no beginning and no end, no purpose and no conclusion.

🚨Architects are going to hate this. Someone just open sourced a full 3D building editor that runs entirely in your browser. No AutoCAD. No Revit. No $5,000/year licenses. It's called Pascal Editor. Built with React Three Fiber and WebGPU -- meaning it renders directly on your GPU at near-native speed. Here's what's inside this thing: → A full building/level/wall/zone hierarchy you can edit in real time → An ECS-style architecture where every object updates through GPU-powered systems → Zustand state management with full undo/redo built in → Next.js frontend so it deploys as a web app, not a desktop install → Dirty node tracking -- only re-renders what changed, not the whole scene Here's the wildest part: You can stack, explode, or solo individual building levels. Select a zone, drag a wall, reshape a slab -- all in 3D, all in the browser. Architecture firms pay $50K+ per seat for BIM software that does this workflow. This is free. 100% Open Source.

Amazing Physics

🔴 The Moon turned red above one of the oldest wonders on Earth. As the Blood Moon rose over the Great Pyramids of Giza, the sky delivered a moment where ancient history met cosmic physics. During a total lunar eclipse, Earth moves directly between the Sun and the Moon, casting its shadow across the lunar surface. But the Moon doesn’t disappear. Instead, sunlight bends through Earth’s atmosphere. Shorter blue wavelengths scatter away, while the longer red wavelengths curve into the shadow and illuminate the Moon — the same effect that creates our fiery sunsets. In that moment, the Moon is lit by the combined glow of every sunrise and sunset happening across Earth. Astronomers measure the intensity of this red color using the **Danjon Scale**: • L0 – Almost invisible dark eclipse • L1 – Dark gray or brown Moon • L2 – Deep rust-red tone • L3 – Bright brick-red glow • L4 – Copper-orange, very bright eclipse The deeper the red, the more dust, clouds, or particles are present in Earth’s atmosphere. Ancient pyramids below. Orbital mechanics above. A reminder that the same sky watched by civilizations thousands of years ago is still unfolding above us tonight. 📍 Giza Pyramids, Egypt

Jeff Bezos wants AI to approve Miami building permits in 10 seconds: “Miami should have an AI application that reads your building permit and it should give you a yes or a no in 10 seconds. Why does it take months and months and months to get a building permit? It doesn’t make any sense.”

🚨Transformers don't learn Newton's laws? They learn Kepler's laws! Like us, transformers don't predict a flying ball via a differential equation, but by fitting a curve. Moreover, reducing context length steers a transformer from Keplerian to Newtonian. Compression in play.

You just raised $5M to build someone else's moat. Here's what I mean. Most AI startups I meet are competing on the wrong axis. They're obsessing over model choice — Claude vs. GPT vs. Gemini. They're fine-tuning on domain data. They're building slick interfaces on top of state-of-the-art APIs. None of that is a moat. All of it can be replicated in weeks. The founders I'm most excited about are competing on a completely different dimension: time. Every session a user spends inside a well-architected AI system is a deposit. The system learns their editing patterns, their risk tolerance, their preferences — implicitly, without being told. After six months of daily use, that system knows how you work in ways you couldn't fully articulate yourself. That's not a product feature. That's a compounding asset. The architectural decision that separates these two worlds is simpler than most founders think: stateful vs. stateless agents. A stateless agent resets after every session — all that signal, discarded. A long-running agent retains it, learns from it, gets harder to replace every single week. The switching cost of a great stateless AI product is zero. The switching cost of a great stateful one, after two years, is enormous — not because of contracts, but because leaving means starting over. I've written a full framework on this — covering the four depths of personalisation, the three RL signals that drive compounding, and where the research frontier is heading. Link in the comments. One question for founders building in this space: are you designing for state accumulation from day one — or is that an afterthought?
