@USUTUKU @chrisbriem an honest data analysis would fully understand that a dollar spent in Fox Chapel on school does not mean the same as a dollar spent in Braddock, in terms of what that money supports and what its "outcome" is
English

@chrisbriem Yet they spend 30% less per student on school than pittsburgh public school (Braddock) & yield a much better outcome.
What does an honest data analysis tell us?

@RobMahoney @jowrotethis Apologies if I missed you discussing it, but just to add to the long list of Coens allusions: The very first part of Roy Tillman's monologue in the opening of episode two is word for word that of Sheriff Ed Tom Bell from No Country. (Then things get a bit different, lol.)
English

Fargo is BACK, dontchaknow? Talked through the thrilling first three episodes with @jowrotethis, and tried to answer one of the questions of our time: How many Imagine Dragons posters is too many Imagine Dragons posters? open.spotify.com/episode/5eHaqc…

@ian_coss @GBHNews @prx @ApplePodcasts Dude, this was so unbelievably good. Actually inspired me on multiple levels, but i think the most important one was just seeing how messy it was for this change to come about. Maybe weirdly, but listening to this gave me hope.
English

Here's my argument: if you want to understand how infrastructure does and doesn't get built in America today, there is no better single case study, than the Big Dig. The trailer is out now from @GBHNews; series launches Sept 27th. @PRX @ApplePodcasts

@Nerd4Cities Not so uncommon to see this in Pittsburgh as well, sometimes even with brand-new installations. Kind of makes you realize that there are no adults actually in charge of these things.

@jesse_kroll @CAPS_CMU lollllll I just came across this tweet (thanks altmetric), which was also a nice blast from the past re: the paragraph in question. You may recognize someone you know's handiwork at play here.
English

This introductory "why aerosols are important" paragraph (in a really nice @CAPS_CMU paper from 2013, pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/jp…) is rather nuts

English

.@jesse_kroll will probably be very embarrassed by this but I'm sure he won't post it himself so someone has to- news.mit.edu/2023/jesse-kro…

@Steven_Hyden Does “guitar solo!” in Halloween Head (Ryan Adams) count?
English

@Dylligent Maybe I'm reading too much into this one plot (and should read the full paper), but with fixed 'Share of two parents...' it seems like there is a gradient favoring urban over rural? Just looking at all of the orange points above the green/blue in the middle of the plot.
English

New paper! 📈
Why do kids born into poverty in rural areas climb the income ladder at higher rates than their urban peers? Answer: rural boys, who benefit from life in small places with more two-parent households.

@uarizonapts Are personal electric scooters allowed on campus, if they are e.g. stored in a office setting (thus not parked outside)?
English

Transportation Tip Tuesday: Please park electric scooters in the designated parking areas on the perimeter of the University of Arizona campus. Here is a map of those locations: bit.ly/3WEqXuy

English

@rishabh_shah92 @erinkatz_ Definitely not sad to have made the switch at all, just noting the bit of weird, indoor AQ-related downside. Induction is the shit.
English

@ShipleyRobinson @erinkatz_ Oh right sorry, I meant to say we switched to a range with induction cooktop and electric oven. The bake off was def from the oven. I just mention the pot of water thing because that’s a major point in favor of energy efficiency, so maybe an offset to the bunch of VOCs we emitted
