This post is impressive in that somehow manages to encapsulate just about everything terrible about this site today. (For one thing, the billionaire posting it didn't seem to know today was an MIT holiday!) I think I'm finally done here; hope to see you all at the Cyan Air Place.

This is a math class this morning at @MIT. This is the state of learning and ‘free speech’ at our top universities. It would not be happening without a failure leadership at MIT. Imagine being a student who borrowed $250k to attend MIT or a professor who is trying to do research in this environment.

I am recruiting PhD students at @PurdueEAPS to observe and model the surface-atmosphere exchange of reactive gases and address open questions regarding air quality and climate. Please repost and share if you know of interested folks! More info attached.

Germicidal UV lights could be producing indoor air pollutants, study finds: While useful for killing pathogens including SARS-CoV-2, the lights may cause unwanted chemical reactions and should be used with ventilation, researchers say. mitsha.re/Go1p50PYx1X

Excited to share our new #indoorchem paper led by @JienanLi out today! science.org/doi/full/10.11…
We found that smoke VOCs form surface reservoirs and thus persist indoors - meaning that air cleaners and ventilation don't permanently solve problems, but surface cleaning does!

Paper Alert! Excited to share our work looking at indoor air quality implications of 222 nm germicidal UV. A fun collaborative project between folks at MIT (@jesse_kroll @mosphericChem), @AerodyneRes, and harvard (@YaoweiLi6 ). pubs.acs.org/doi/full/10.10…

Last day of #AAAR2023! One more talk to plug: bright and early (8am, 11ID.1) Matthew Goss will be speaking on indoor SOA formation from 222 nm lights
English

#AAAR2023: 6 presentations by the group today!
1) 8AC.4, 10:30: Hannah Kenagy, on controlling RO2 in chamber SOA studies
2) 8AC.5, 10:45: Erik Helstrom, on the RO2-dependence of a-pinene+OH SOA
3) 9AC.4, 1:00: Lesly Franco, on how RO2 regime affects gas-phase a-pinene+OH products

Just a quick reminder that these new covid shots are out just in time for getting them 2 weeks ahead of #AAAR23 - lets layer on all the protection we can get!

"Do scientists clean up the narrative to have a stronger story? Absolutely … It's just that he got there by a remarkably flawed logic experiment that … is convincing all of the people who are already convinced that scientists are not rigorous and honest about climate change."

@PrasadKasibhat1 That's why (imo) it's such a good interview! The interviewer kept asking hard (but totally reasonable) questions, and he didn't really have much of an answer for any of them.
English

A truly excellent article and interview.
"if someone says A to me and to my readers, and then they turn around a few days later and say, In fact, I really believe B — I was only saying A because of the incentives, it gives me pause. Because why should I trust you?"
