"The irony is maddening: You spend a lifetime mastering a language, adhering to its formal rules with greater diligence than most native speakers, and for this, a machine built an ocean away calls you a fake,” Kenyan writer Marcus Olang’ nymag.com/intelligencer/…

What a powerful start to our 2026 Information Integrity Bootcamps! On Friday, 20 March, we joined 110 students at @Rongo_Uni for a full day of learning on fact-checking, digital verification and AI literacy. Led by @Shiundu and @Makiniah from Africa Check’s Kenya office, with support from @DIMLISAfrica, the day was filled with energy, curiosity and collaboration.

I spent some time over the weekend doing some work on AI literacy with 240+ students from two Kenyan universities. It really was interesting that despite ALL the AI tools available in the market, most know about @GeminiApp and @ChatGPTapp. Only one mentioned @grok (which was a surprise, because, I expected more to know about it) and one mentioned @claudeai (another surprise, because, well, Claude is quite handy!) They were undergraduates, so we just spoke about Gemini (a short mention of just how superb @NotebookLM is). Side note is that only 4, FOUR, had heard about last year's offer for free Gemini Pro for a year for university students. It expired, but I think it would have served them well. I left some fun tips on how to use chatbots responsibly in their scholarly work without succumbing to the temptation to cheat.

Today is a holiday in Kenya, and the university students in Rongo asked our friends at @DIMLISAfrica to make sure that we @AfricaCheck_KE show up to deliver the bootcamp on information integrity and resilience in 2026. It is the first one in 2026.  Over 200 signed up. Let’s see how many actually turn up.  (We made the news on their university channel :) ) Idd Mubarak!

Unfortunately, the Judiciary has chosen to lie. I am the counsel on record. Let Hon. Ndemo produce the email thread showing that my client or I were served. @katibainstitute was not served with the hearing notice, the hearing link, the notice of the ruling, or the ruling. 1/2

The instant NTSA fine is a clear criminal enterprise. There are no signs of the speed limits, no posters of the camera zones. The idea speed limits are to ensure public safety hence the necessity for marking. It is not intended for collection of fines. Secondly the imposition of fines is a judicial function and those must be paid into the consolidated fund, not an amorphous bank account. And who charges interest on unpaid fines!!!

Hanifa 🇵🇸 🇸🇩 🇨🇩 🇰🇪
Hello everyone. I said earlier that I wouldn’t go back and forth with government bloggers until I had the facts, and now I do. My total hospital bill was Ksh 263,340. My insurance, AAR, paid Ksh 250,000, and I personally covered the remaining Ksh 13,340. SHA did not pay for anything, and even if it had, that would not be a favor,it would simply be the system doing what it is meant to do. I have never come here to lie about my experience. I speak my truth, and I detest misinformation just as much as anyone else. Healthcare in this country is not something I joke about, because I have seen firsthand what ordinary people go through in public hospitals. Instead of addressing those realities, the government seems more focused on PR trying to spin its way out of the crisis rather than ensuring that ordinary, vulnerable Kenyans are not stranded in hospitals because they cannot afford care. Healthcare should not be a lottery where we pick and choose who the system works for. It should work for everyone.

We love to see world-class airports. We love to compete & defend our flag 🇰🇪 But when one reads some stuff, it leaves u with lots of questions . How hard is it 2have stakeholders engagement? How hard is communication matrix? How hard is it to get it right at once on design?
Alphonce Shiundu@Shiundu

There’s no guesswork when it comes to ambition, dreams, and vision; but you will weep (a little) when you read the tender documents for the modernisation of Kenya’s main airport, JKIA. You see, the minister of transport issued a brief that says that by 2045, the airport will be handling 22.31 million passengers and 860,400 tons of cargo. /1
