Peacock Tarantula is in news. Interestingly the species was first sighted by a Chief Engineer of Railways in his bunglow at Gooty (Guththi) in Andhra Pradesh. He sent the specimen to British Museum. This is the reason it is also called Gooty Sapphire Tarantula. @Ananth_IRAS

Secretary, Ministry of Jalshakti Shri V.L. Kantha Rao visited the Freshwater Turtle Conservation facility and Ganga biodiversity interpretation centre "Ganga Darpan" at Sarnath. He appreciated the efforts made by Uttar Pradesh Forest Department and WII in ecological restoration of the Ganga River. @moefcc @wii_india @SACONCoimbatore @GobindsagarBha1 @RuchiBadola2 @DoWRRDGR_MoJS

The Secretary thereafter visited the Turtle Rehabilitation Centre at Sarnath, which functions under the technical supervision of the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun. He reviewed the conservation activities being undertaken at the centre and was briefed on the life cycle and habitat requirements of the species. The Secretary personally examined the health of the turtles and offered guidance to officials of the Wildlife Division on aspects of safety and care. On the occasion, he named the resident male and female turtles "Raja" and "Rani.” Addressing the team, the Secretary underlined the importance of citizen participation in the conservation of the Ganga and urged greater public engagement with the campaign. Dean Dr. Ruchi Badola, DFO Shri Ramnarayan V Shivshankar and Kshetradhikari Shri Subhash Chandra Tripathi were present.

Released on the occasion of World Elephant Day, Elephants in Our Ethos is an artwork which invites us to travel through the cultural, ecological and spiritual richness of India with its heritage animals - the elephants. Walk along the trunks of the elephants in the artwork to take a multifaceted journey through India - from southern peninsula, to central Indian forests, to the magnificent Himalayas; from ancient times, to the present interactions in forest fringes, to eternity - all led by the elephants. Starting at the bottom, the old brown elephant represents the rich history and age-old relationship with elephants, etched into ancient architectures, epics, empires and heritage. In the centre, the blue-green elephant showcases co-existence with native forest-dwelling communities in various parts of India. At the top, the white elephant tucked amidst clouds and mountains leading a spiritual pathway reaches the pinnacle of wisdom and enlightenment.

Had the opportunity to discuss management initiatives for conservation of tigers, rhinos and elephants in the Katernighat area and mitigation measures taken to avoid human wildlife conflicts with forest officials. Also interacted with the field formations including a troupe of Special Tiger Protection Force (STPF) to understand the protection challenges during monsoons. Commendable efforts being made by all in very trying circumstances.

Shiva Shankar DFO Katerniaghat shared this page of Forest Rest House register today. 20 years passed. As if it was yesterday. Humbled that people still remember. Those were challenging days. Now a place known for its incredible revival and offering ‘where rare is common’.

Sujauli was under central seed farm for a long time. Now a good tiger habitat. Many of new inhabitants are enjoying the inviolable area as shared by DFO Katerniaghat, Mr Shiva Shankar. Beautiful capture.

The monsoon forest patrol team in Katerniaghat WLS is pleasantly surprised to encounter the tiger relax on the vantage point of staircase of the watch tower, keeping an eye on them & the prey below as well !! @byadavbjp @moefcc @ntca_india @DudhwaTR @rameshpandeyifs

Pangolins are anteaters & play the important role of balancing the forest ecosystem by feeding on ants & termites. Our RRT rescued Pangolin from the Village of Katerniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary & released it in its natural habitat. @moefcc @ntca_india @UpforestUp @ifs_lalit

A momentous day as 2021 batch IFS officers had the privilege to meet Hon’ble CM Shri Yogi Adityanath; accompanied by PCCF/HOFF Shri Sudhir Kumar Sharma.
