It’s funny how one comment can undo hours of courage in seconds. Suddenly I was aware of every inch of myself again, sitting there trying to laugh it off while feeling like I wanted to disappear. The rest of the night blurred into me nodding along to conversations I wasn’t really present for, counting down until I could go home.

I saw a tweet over the weekend. It was a woman talking about how she never wears sleeveless tops, how it’s always been a quiet insecurity of hers. Then one day she finally did it, stepped out in a tank top and nothing happened. No comments, no stares, no awkward remarks. Just a normal day. I don’t know why, but that gave me this small, fragile kind of courage. The kind that whispers, maybe it’s not as big a deal as you think. So I decided to try it for myself. I picked out a tank top, stood in front of the mirror longer than I’d like to admit trying to adjust it, second-guessing, almost changing three different times. But eventually I left the house in it. Met up with my friends, sat down for dinner, tried to act like I wasn’t hyper-aware of my arms the entire time. For a while, it was fine. Nobody said anything. I even started to relax a little, like maybe that tweet was right. Maybe this didn’t have to be a whole thing. Then, halfway through dinner, one of my friends looked at me and…

went in my son's room to fix the camera. he's face down, snoring hard so i take the camera and leave. come back, am plugging it back in when suddenly the snoring stops. i look over and hes lifted just his head and is staring at me. i stare at him. he stares at me. i stare at him. i quietly back out of the room and leave. watch him on the monitor and hes still staring at where i was standing. eventually he just rolls over and goes back to sleep. this has never happened before. i was expecting a full blown meltdown bc i was there and then left. but no, nothing. im in shock.

While I agree with the Trump administration's move to discontinue the penny, they should have issued some guidance to businesses on how to round penny transactions. Every business is making up its own convoluted rules and it's potentially going to be a mess.
