@djdotmp4 Yax is easily top 5 in this class (disregarding age) and is a late bloomer too. His prime (3-4 years from now) lines up really well with our core and really fits our needs. I would rather not give up both picks for him but he should end up in Charlotte

I do not think giving up two top-20 picks in a *loaded* draft class for a player who will be as old as LaMelo Ball is a good idea, nor do I think it is a realistic outcome.

@LocasaleLab I think this is a terrible take. Proofs illuminate the "why" much better than computational exercises do and leads to developing intuition for these topics. Restricting proofs to the "gifted few" is intellectual elitism. In fact, more people would enjoy math with proofs involved

The math you need for pretty much all of life including nearly all jobs can be obtained at a community college. This includes all the calculus you need. Epsilon–delta, prof-heavy calculus is meant for a very small number of mathematically gifted students, not the vast majority of people. The overwhelming majority of Americans need calculus to understand derivatives and basic integration and to be financially literate. You can get that at a community college. You don’t need to be able to prove all the theorems in calculus. For well over 99.9% of jobs, including those in finance, engineering, and IT, that level of understanding is completely unnecessary. These courses are useful for a very small group pursuing math at a high level, but they’re not a benchmark for what people need in a workforce, including those who earn degrees at MIT. This is not even to mention how much MIT has declined in its rigor as well.

@LocasaleLab I did that MIT 18.014 “with theory” class and it was hard even though I’d already done AP Calc (as well as a few elective math classes at the nearby college) in high school.
