@natalieben Before my children started secondary, I assumed there must be more to these stories. That this was misreporting. I was shocked to discover there really isn't. Some schools are convinced this hard-line approach improves overall discipline. It just causes resentment.

They don’t seem to grasp that he has to be in and consistently using them to understand. Putting things in place and him being in sometimes once a week. That’s not going to work.

What also helps? The TA provided for his 1:1 has no training in working with SEN kids. The once we know of that she was sent to a sister school for some training - he just so happened to be suspended that day.

Putting teachers and TAs in impossible conditions and waiting for them to crack is an example of actions having consequences. I see both sides of this issue.

They got his funding doubled and still wanted more. After being told no, it feels like they are trying to make it so hard that my sister will just pull him out. Unfortunately thanks to the school, no one wants to give him a chance. If the extremely detailed handover provided by the nursery for his transition had been followed. It’s likely we wouldn’t have ended up here.

End of. It's traumatic for him and for you. I see both sides but mostly from the teens I wk with who are not in sch and have had this since they were 5. The lucky ones find a sch that suits.
