Love this from Mr P. And sadly, as we know, there's even voices in education and on education podcasts who share the abhorrent views he rightly calls out here.
Mr P MBE@ICT_MrP

Watch these two clips and tell me what they have in common. The lack of understanding towards the struggles so many families face. The lack of awareness of the cost of living crisis and the decimation of the systems that should be supporting parents. Telling, to say the

"What we want is new recruits who are afraid to speak up or challenge authority, dress like 1950s insurance salesmen & sit like weird rigid mannequins at desks, staring at us as we move round" said no modern employer ever..... theguardian.com/education/2026…

@bphillipsonMP You're stripping children of the legal right to have their needs met. You're stripping parents of their ability to win 98% of cases against councils who already fail to provide support. You're forcing children with complex SEND into an annexe because it's cheaper than specialist.

@RachelFairfiel1 I think the making will be fun however it turns out. It's my least favourite session because I hate people in my kitchen so I have to go upstairs and clean to take my mind off of it.

These toileting policies seem similar in many secondary schools, and yet often controversial with parents. Fascinated as to where these policies originate. Are schools getting collective advice on it, copying/emulating others, or what?
Warwick Mansell@warwickmansell

Another pupil adds: “Since year nine, I have gone to the toilet twice. You can’t go, you have to wait for a member of SLT to escort you from lessons. They have to escort you to the toilet, and escort you back. And if they don’t come, you can’t go.”

“I’ve had to escalate these concerns to the Secretary of State for Education in this country and it’s not a satisfactory way of doing things. It would be much better to have resolved this at a local level with our local authority partners.”

I think when a teenager at school makes a safeguarding disclosure, it’s best not to laugh at them and take them seriously.

Parent: “If I was micromanaging everything about my child down to what socks he wears, if I was telling him he couldn’t go to the toilet when he needed to go to the toilet, I would be in front of social services.”

“I really used to enjoy reading. But now, in school, I can’t read without having this fear of me being in trouble for not tracking every line with a bookmark,” BBC SW investigates behaviour management policies at Athena Academy Trust. (At 3.55 here: bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episod… )

I wrote in 2023 about a policy of another MAT, Astrea, insisting secondary pupils follow text with ruler, posting the instructions to teachers on this. Children's laureate Frank Cottrell Boyce responded that England was "intent on eating its own children": x.com/frankcottrell_…

@KitPeacock I’ve AI’d email chasing delayed response from DCC today but actual complaint I write. Very formulaic as have sent so many now. Legislation, high court ruling, failings, attempts to resolve, remedy. Will get 3 pages of waffle at St 1, more excuses at st2 ignoring statutory duty

If your AI generated complaint letter is more technical than you can understand, chances are it's also nonsense to the person reading it.

Just as you thought the researchED story couldn't get much more concerning (I'm being polite here), along comes a fresh development. Great article by @warwickmansell unpacking it all.

A week after St Mary Redcliffe School announced it was joining a MAT, Stephen Brooke, Chair of Governors, has "stepped down". Teachers, meanwhile, are balloting. This blatant privatisation (quite rightly) is not going smoothly.

@asdfriendly Oh it's always the parents. Never mind the fact I had barely raised an email of concern for five years. Then Tweddledum and Tweddledummer turn up and turn the school into a shit show

I’m not sure how the DfE thinks complaints between families and schools are going to work. I put in a complaint last month and the school has ignored it, going against their own complaints policy. The school’s weak leadership is now creating a safeguarding issue

@nixieblue17 Our old dog has dementia so needs sending out for a wee regularly. Apparently the face and point I use to send her out is the same one I used to use to send the kids to their rooms if there was any dissent. 90's Mommy was harsh they tell me😂
