Question for school leaders in England: when did you last undergo training on SEND law - i.e. the Equality Act 2010, and how it interplay with statutory guidance such as DfE Guidance on Suspensions and Exclusions (2024)? I'm seeing a LOT of legally weak positions at the moment.

"Our LAs lose 99% of SEND Tribunal's. But rather than SACKING all 'les incompetents' & sorting it so they just don't break the law, we'll take away the ability to hold the system accountable". Is @bphillipsonMP going to have the nerve to be honest? lawgazette.co.uk/news/plan-to-h…

Outsourcing latest formal complaint @Derbyshirecc not because I can’t do it myself because I could I have plenty of practice as it’s a yearly event. I just feel completely done with it all. Will fund it from last year’s recompense and ask for reimbursement of costs in this year’s

@realdoll03 @alicesalisburyj @mrsJBC01 Definitely son got far better support because if he wasn’t happy nobody was learning so they felt it worthwhile to support him to protect the other’s chances. With d she didn’t cause a problem so there was no incentive to support her despite SSEN then EHCP.

@asdfriendly @alicesalisburyj @mrsJBC01 I’ve found this very much to be the case, unless child is creating ‘behaviour’ and can’t be ignored. I’ve experience of schools leaving children’s schooling and child falling years behind until exam time oblivious and not seeking support

And politicians wonder why people don’t trust them. If you don’t want to consult, don’t consult. But don’t tell everyone, from schools to parents to SEN support providers, that you haven’t made a decision and you want their opinion.

Government admits key final decisions on the SEND Tribunal have already been made, despite consultation on its SEND reforms being open till 18 May. It's at odds with ministers' statements on the consultation engaging people 'before any final decision'. lawgazette.co.uk/news/key-final…

A cat bite… my wife is in a lot of pain. Swelling, she’s on antibiotics. This is the hazard of working with cats. Happened on Wednesday, she has worked yesterday and today. This is not the worst bite she has experienced, but it is still painful.

@realdoll03 @alicesalisburyj @mrsJBC01 D had dx and SSEN in place by 3 schools were largely useless at recognising autism even with dx. Ed psych determined provision left to school it wouldn’t have happened she is bright and caused no issues.

@alicesalisburyj @mrsJBC01 I’m truly horrified with all of it but particularly that schools will be put in charge of assessing need. We’ve had one positive ms placement but what was clear is they haven’t a clue. All of d’s provision in the positive placement was guided externally

@savoy_girl @protodanielle Agreed I had it 2x first time missed entirely even when I went to A&E with baby who was admitted. It burnt out untreated but I had seen GPs HVs A&E and hospital staff because I was able to “pass” largely because I felt very ashamed at the time.

@protodanielle Charged. Not convicted. Innocent until proven guilty. If this was murder, I will fully condemn the woman involved. But until then I consider the fact that there may be post partial psychosis at play.

🚨 IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR EVERY FOLLOWER – NO MENTAL HEALTH EXCUSES FOR THIS BABY KILLER Zahira Byjaouane, 43, allegedly snatched her 18-day-old baby girl Mariam while the dad was in the kitchen making formula and threw her from a fourth-floor window in Westminster. The tiny baby died from a fatal skull fracture. Some are already rushing in with “she must have postpartum psychosis” or “mental health issues”. Let me be CRYSTAL CLEAR: There is ZERO evidence, zero diagnosis, and zero mention of any mental health condition in the police reports or court documents so far. Thousands of mums battle postpartum struggles every year and do NOT throw their newborns out of windows. Stop making excuses for pure evil. This wasn’t illness – this was cold, calculated murder. She’s charged with murder and heading to the Old Bailey. She deserves whole-life – no sympathy, no reduced sentence, no bullshit excuses. Baby Mariam deserved love and safety from the one person who should have protected her most. To every single one of you jumping on MENTAL HEALTH YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM.

@cierzo1 We are in a Reform led council you can see how little they value education here. Closed Adult education centres arbitrarily and now abandoned plans to re site library to space already there leaving it to fall into rack and ruin. The writing is on the wall.

🎯 “I don't think it's the children's fault. The children are the same as they’ve always been… but as a society we’ve changed what childhood is, & it’s not for the better.” 🎯 Time to stop demonising kids & start listening to them. What's being demanded of them needs to change.
Mr P MBE@ICT_MrP

asked teachers who’ve been in the classroom longer than 15 years what the biggest change has been. Thousands replied, I’ve collated them with a little help from Al 😉 Here’s a run down of what came out... If you’ve been teaching 15+ years... does this reflect your experience?

As the authoritarian lobby group continues to flog out-of-date Kool-Aid to a global audience, it's to be hoped that England turns its back on the 20th century, and starts to grasp the present. You can't educate kids by traumatising them. It's time to understand them. 4/4

@StarlightMcKenz @MummaSend @PaulWat5 Let’s be clear, many are successful in achieving access through the current system. It’s VERY hard but, it does work, takes years. What we will now have is thousands more with no access and no right to redress.

@PaulWat5 Because the model the Reforms are emulating is the model that already exists. The Reforms are simply legitimising them and removing the challenge that was preventing the deterioration to the level we are going to see.

@Georgia_Gould These reforms would reduce rights and accountability, undermine inclusion and give more power to local authorities that make unlawful decisions in 99% of Tribunal cases. saveourchildrensrights.org.uk
