@skulltrot It was easier for me to get an autism diagnosis because I had an adhd diagnosis and a neuropsych done already. The adhd diagnosis was a long and extremely invalidating/ damaging process.

anyone who isn't okay with self diagnosing autism never had to go through the process of getting diagnosed when you're older than 13

Today is #AutismAwarenessDay. At the age of 12 I was diagnosed with Asperger, a form of autism. At that time I had no idea what it meant. When I and my parents told people I was autistic, they always reacted with shock since I didn’t fit into the stereotype of autistic people.1/7

As neurodivergents I don’t think it is fair that many of us feel we have to use our strengths to justify our weaknesses and gain acceptance in this society.

Even though adhd traits can be strengths they are for the most part incompatible with modern day society. I think it’s just time to finally recognize and validate the impact of my traits on my function.

I feel like coming from an Asian American background where productivity is preached and praised, makes it hard to accept the devastating effects of my adhd. It makes it easier to fall back into toxic and trivializing mindsets like “use it as a strength” or “overcome it.”

@UKvlog_2020 I read your tweet and related to it. I’m just now revisiting it. I have AuDHD too and in my case it comes w it’s big set strengths and weaknesses. (I don’t struggle w tics or bad comorbid mental health disorders) It is definitely strait hell living w AuDHD in a modern world

Idk why I’m re-engaging with this topic today😭😭 I just saw a few posts about it and thought about how the experience of heartbreak is massively different for autistic people

I just read a post on medium about an autistic person going through a breakup. Now I know why I couldn’t stop reading about the neuroscience of romance during mine. I guess trying to scientifically label all of our emotions is an autism thing 🫀 medium.com/invisible-illn…

@hannaween3 It can be helpful to go and read about other peoples breakup experiences on Reddit or Twitter. It can even be helpful to ask people about their breakups in real life.

@hannaween3 Sometimes relationships can be like special interests so to have that ripped away from you without any anticipation is difficult. Try to engage in your other special interests as much as you can to replace the time spent caring for your relationship.
