I think Reform, the Tories and various right-wing commentators are badly misjudging the mood over Iran. Most British people are opposed to the war; they are not convinced it is legal (it isn't); they don't believe there was an imminent threat (there wasn't); they remember the disaster of Iraq; and, even though many of them don't like Starmer and wouldn't vote for him, they don't like it when a US president belittles our prime minister and slags off our country in front of the world. Many right-wingers just see Starmer on one side of the argument and decide they must therefore place themselves on the other. It is not a serious approach. They are misreading the room.

I’m appalled by continuing restrictions imposed on women and girls in Afghanistan. The Taliban’s new criminal procedure code legitimises domestic violence and targets women and minorities. These oppressive measures must be rescinded. The rights of all Afghans must be protected.
