@dailymaverick While building data centres locally may be seen as a threat to our energy and water security, it will significantly enhance data security and sovereignty by ensuring that our sensitive information remains within our jurisdiction and under our legal protections.

And this has nothing to do with “cost-containment”. It has all to do with suppression of debate. Online meetings are being used as a tactic to silence dissenting voices in Council.
Veve@LudidiVelani

While Cape Town residents spend hours stuck in traffic each day, the councillors responsible for tackling the city’s congestion have not held an in-person council meeting in almost a year. The last physical sitting of the City ofCT Council was in July 2025 news24.com/southafrica/ne…

@hlovo_ Imagine competing with a person used to living off $2.60/day, with no electricity, healthcare, water or sanitation. These are the people South Africans are competing with people willing to live under horrendous conditions and willing to take any abuse and be dehumanised at work.

No, South Africans want to do those jobs but they’re not willing to be exploited by their employers. Foreigners get even less than the minimum wage and since they’re desperate, they’ll work. Now do you see the problem? So while South Africans are dealing with companies that exploit them, foreigners offer these companies a solution by offering their cheap labour. This is counterproductive to the cause and it should be dealt with.

@hlovo_ Immigrants often take the jobs local citizens are not willing to do and see opportunities in the rubble. This is not just an SA phenomena. In addition, the ANC is looting the country in partnership with WMC and I don’t see anyone fighting them 😭

@LordVizo__ They would never do that because their cronies benefit from the illegal immigrant’s cheap labour.

If DA is smart, this is their opportunity to bamboozle us and become the majority party in SA. All they have to do is clean up Home Affairs and make sure it runs like a well oiled machine + adequately secure our borders. This alone, will do wonders for them in 2029.

@SolidariDirk You are suffering from white male masculinity syndrome. That is the reason you have a problem with the hiring of white women and disabled white persons.

BREAKTHROUGH: Coca-Cola withdraws job advertisement after Solidarity intervenes Coca-Cola has withdrawn a controversial racial advertisement after Solidarity initiated legal action against the company. In the job advertisement for an internship aimed at unemployed young people, Coca-Cola stipulated that the candidate must be black. There is no moral justification for classifying unemployed young people according to race. There is also no obligation on companies to include racial requirements in advertisements. On the contrary, racially exclusive advertisements are unlawful. The inclusion of race in advertisements is a self-imposed practice by employers that must be stopped. Among other actions, Solidarity initiated a process against Coca-Cola at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), of which the United States is a signatory. Part of this process involves placing the company on formal terms. Coca-Cola responded in writing, undertaking to withdraw the advertisements immediately and to begin an internal process to ensure that this does not happen again. In the meantime, Solidarity will continue engaging with Coca-Cola to ensure that racial exclusion does not arise again in future. Solidarity will also continue its campaign against racial stipulations in advertisements and South Africa’s broader race-based policies. Approximately 20 companies with exclusive racial requirements have been identified, and action is planned against them. These companies are not only acting immorally but are also in breach of various laws and international conventions. This also constitutes a violation of the terms of the settlement between Solidarity and the South African government, under the supervision of the International Labour Organization (ILO), which also forms part of a court order.

@ErnstRoets Freedom Day celebrates ending apartheid’s denial of rights to black people. Electricity access rose, opportunities grew for the majority, and political equality was gained. We can criticise the ANC but the current SA can never be worse than Apertheid.

People celebrate Freedom Day in South Africa because they celebrate the expectations of 1994, but not the fulfillment thereof. The truth is that in many ways that are objectively measurable, South Africa is much worse off now than it was when the ANC took power.

South Africa must document its history properly, or we risk people even denying apartheid ever happened. We need more documentaries and demographic data—without them, we leave the narrative to those with influence to shape the country as they see fit.

@ivymuthe What they should be advocating for is free uniform. Knowing the level of inequality in this country, how can they advocate for this nonsense?

Members of Parliament are advocating for the abolition of mandatory school uniforms, proposing instead that students be allowed to attend classes in casual clothes brought from home. Do you think this is a good or a bad move?
