it’s so funny to see ml people read these advancements. they think it’s like a YOLO v7 released, you can just plug and play. welcome to the thunder dome. we still can’t reverse hair loss or get rid of wrinkles or make pills that make you sleep well. forget brain transplants.
vittorio@IterIntellectus

holy shit MIT researchers just turned skin cells directly into neurons without stem cell intermediate, 100-fold efficiency boost, and they actually worked when transplanted into mouse brains 1/

This new paper should have made global headlines along the lines of "Geneticists warn next battle may be against an army of IQ 170 people, 7-feet tall, and free from all mental & physical disease (or else end the species in an unintended genetic meltdown)". Instead it dropped without a murmur. The reason, curiously, lies in the review history (which is online but easily overlooked)… Reviewers criticised use of examples based on gene editing for IQ, along with other examples discussing height and weight, which were deemed stigmatizing. Removing all mention of these polygenic traits, the final paper keeps a laser focus on severe disease such as Schizophrenia, and tabulating the known ethical dilemmas of gene editing. But what did they find In the initial draft?

It took me SEVEN years to figure out that you can save a ggplot as a vectorized .svg file ggsave("file.svg"). The svg file can be opened on powerpoint and it will be completely vectorized, even text are still recognized as text boxes! No more recreating plots on illustrator!!!!!

For only $143, Elsevier/Springer will send me a PDF of my accepted paper that I can share with 25 people :). Publishers again adding tremendous value. I wouldn't know what to do without this attractive option.
