I'm not at all surprised that Carrick has impressed because I truly believe that he can *quickly* become one of the best tacticians in the country as learning from Mourinho & LVG after spending ~20 years developing into what Guardiola calls "one of the best holding midfielders I've ever seen" is a recipe for greatness. His methodology based on positional play & sustained attacks with maximum width translates well to a squad of higher quality — as we saw with Xavi's Barcelona & currently see with Arteta's Arsenal — whilst the fluidity of his 433/4231 is a dream for squad building as it accommodates for a wide range of profiles. One thing that will be crucial for his success is appointing the correct assistant(s) because, even though his tenure at Boro concluded due to poor recruitment, it wasn't helped by the loss of Danks to Bayern whilst, during their time together at Manchester United, it was McKenna who was credited for implementing the OOP structure. If he can create a defensive solidity that allows for his archetypal modern attacking style, I wouldn't be shocked if he puts his name in contention for the permanent job if not right at the very top.

The gap between Manchester United and Brentford on their valuation of Bryan Mbeumo remains considerable, reports @David_Ornstein in today's Transfer DealSheet. The two sides are several million pounds apart. There have been no significant developments over the past couple of weeks, and a deal is still not imminent, but talks continue as #MUFC work to complete a move for the Cameroon forward. nytimes.com/athletic/64927…

Up the 7pm on a Sunday evening is an absolute farce and it's even more of a farce when you consider that it's been moved so Sky can masturbate themselves silly over a rats vs barcodes energy drink final but fuck it I'm looking forward to seeing Ruud again and if Beard helps to relegate you then chin up son because it's not your fault that Leicester are utter shite and if they sack you then you can go back to spending your weekends cheering on Manchester Matchday Reds.
