@SimonSimplicio I think Taylor’s account of Reform in A Secular Age suggests that the view that virtues like honesty, integrity, etc are within the reach of most people is at least somewhat distinctive of a Christian moral outlook.

With Ann Widdecombe and Lindsey Graham's back-to-back deaths I'm moved to reflect that we don't make eccentric public figures like we used to. Can any politician under 50 come close to matching this kind of aura?

@BMcGrewvy @german_saucedo After Alasdair MacIntyre and Jürgen Habermas' deaths a few folks on here reflected that we don't really have any Great Men of philosophy anymore. Our age of self-obsession produces fewer compelling figures. Go figure.

@BMcGrewvy @german_saucedo Yeah no you have a point. I remember thinking this about like BLM and other modern social movements - they lack charismatic leaders with personality. Maybe for the best, but interesting nevertheless.
