Thinking about the first time I watched Pride and Prejudice with Child 2 (who was 11 or 12). She got SO mad at Mrs. Bennet for telling Lydia, “Take every opportunity to enjoy yourself!” She yelled, “NO! You should be telling her: ‘Take every opportunity to grow in virtue!!!’”

This weird weather! It keeps yo-yo-ing from highs in the 80s to highs in the 40s. The heat keeps getting more things to bloom, but the cold is preserving the older blooms. Currently blooming: maples, forsythia, pears, magnolias, cherries, and now redbuds!!!

This woman said: My husband and I saw Gone Girl in the theater and when it was over, a man behind us with a southern accent said "Wow. I'm surprised." And 11 years later whenever either of us is surprised about something we say "Wow. I'm surprised." in a southern accent and then continue speaking to each other in a southern accent for the next 30-45 minutes. One man's life touches so many others you see.

You ever feel like your heart and brain and eyeballs are being scooped out by someone's bare hands? Like you're a pumpkin and someone is ripping out the flesh from inside you to turn you into a jack-o-lantern?

when my mom took care of babies my favorite story is about this toddler named eli who took a while to talk and everyone was concerned about it but one day my dad was like "eli, can you say “car”?” and he looks at my dad and goes "yes, i can. why do you ask?"

G. K. Chesterton explains that reading gives a man more lives than he was born with: “A man who has read a thousand books is armed for life; a man who has read none is easy prey. The man who has read a thousand books has lived a thousand lives. He has seen cities he has never visited, spoken to men who died centuries ago, and walked in worlds that no longer exist. Reading does not merely inform him; it enlarges him. It stretches the boundaries of his own experience until he becomes something more than himself.”

I came across this ruin on the moors. A hushed and beautiful place and somehow poignant to see the stones weep ferns and the crooked beam shouldering the weight of birdsong and cold winds.

@2ProbablyNever Maybe 🤔. I also suspect that we don’t appreciate how specifically our brains are set up by teaching reading when children are very young and how difficult and complex the task actually is
