@DavidLloydRADIO Did it all the time when I was about 15 David. After records were limited to about 1 a week at 50p a go!

Just found an old C60 from my teenage years. Appears I went to pains to tape the records but chopped off jingles and presenter links. Must have been an odd phase.

Only one man could read the Shipping Forecast the way it should be. Reading it and alternating by switching his mic off, pressing the t/back, cracking part of a dirty joke, then continuing the forecast and never getting out of sequence. Ever. Except once!!! He isn’t in radio now

@tonyblackburn You are so right, Tony. A truly unique voice and a real nice guy. I worked with him at the very start of his career at Radio City when he was just 21. We spent many an hour after my show just talking radio into the early hours in the Radio City Newsroom in the very early 80s.

So very sorry to hear that Howard Hughes has passed away. He was a great broadcaster and a lovely kind man . I knew him well and this has come as a great shock R.I .P. Howard so many people will miss you including me.

Like Keir Starmer, I grew up in a pebble dash house (council). I did my homework on my single bed, books and files on candlewick mattress (no desk). Sometimes, on kitchen table. Or I got a bus to the town library. Amazingly, managed to do well in my exams without use of penthouse. There are millions like me.
