@LucyMangan Liked your review of Ripley but not sure the adjective 'pulpy' applies to Patricia Highsmith's work?? 🤔

A big shoutout to all the hard-working British growers who are creating a sustainable food system without harming any animals. #BackBritishFarming.

@jburnmurdoch Have you read 'Falling Down' by @philbc3 which covers very similar ground a predicted the slow decline of the Conservative Party due to similar factors?

The number of vegans in the UK exploded in 2023, research suggests, with 1.1 million more people living a fully animal-free lifestyle than a year earlier.

I want my children to learn about Christianity. And other religions. But I don’t think it’s right to force or coerce any children into worshipping, praying or otherwise taking part in religious ritual. Children have rights too. And those who are religious absolutely do not have the right to foist it on others, including children.

@DrFarazHarsini This isn't just bad journalism or a twisted interpretation, it is a lie. Tufts summary : “Those who consumed greater amounts of animal protein tended to have more chronic disease and didn’t manage to obtain the improved physical function that we associate with eating protein”
English

🚨🚨🚨Dirty and unethical journalism and spreading disinformation at its finest! 🚨🚨🚨
As a biomedical and food system scientist with over a decade of experience in protein research, I can only describe this attitude as hatred towards healthy eating and terrible, biased, and unethical journalism by @DailyMail, which not only fails to reflect the truth but also reports the complete opposite.
A new study looked at 48,762 women from the Nurses Health Study and found that plant protein was the most beneficial for healthy aging, better than animal protein and dairy protein specifically!
This was after adjusting for confounding variables, such as age, sex, race, smoking, exercise, BMI, total calorie intake, and more.
Higher plant protein intake was also associated with higher odds of having good mental status and being free from physical function limitations. Higher animal protein intake was associated with lower odds of being free of chronic diseases.
This study, along with the largest meta-analysis on protein intake and mortality risk to date, suggests that higher, not lower protein intake may aid in living a long and healthy life, and plant protein reigns supreme over animal protein.
The original paper (PMID: 32699048) actually promotes plant based eating, and the conclusion reads:
✅"Dietary protein intake, especially plant protein, in midlife, is associated with higher odds of healthy aging and with several domains of positive health status in a large cohort of female nurses."✅
How do you think @dailymail reported this?
❌"Warning vegans! Animal proteins are crucial for healthy aging, major study of 50,000 women shows"❌
"Research shows that vegan diets can be harmful for overall health"
This is just meat cult propaganda. It is remarkable how this paper strongly advocates for plant-based diets, yet how misleading this click bait is from Daily Mail and @EmilyJoshu.
The study doesn't mention "vegan" or "plant based" EVEN ONCE.
It did NOT compare vegans with nonvegans!
It showed that those who consume more plant proteins (even with a little animal proteins) were healthier than those who ate more animal protein!
This level of disinformation is not a coincidence. As much as I give people the benefit of the doubt, this article selectively goes after vegans, providing even more bad resources to attack veganism. This article has personal hatred and bias all over it.
What a failure for journalism.
Please share so next time they think twice before publishing garbage.
In this thread I addressed myths about plant and animal based proteins:

@FoolproofMaster @drmatthewnagra

Foolproof Mastery@FoolproofMaster
Yet, @DailyMail thinks healthier aging with greater intake of plant protein (even when compared with animal protein) makes animal protein crucial for healthy aging 🤔 Neither did the paper single out & vegans in the population

Eating more plant-based “is the single biggest thing individuals can do to make an impact”
“We have huge agency over what we eat, and that really does matter”
“Meat consumption in Germany and the UK reached a record low this year”
Big wins still in 2023

@Nigella_Lawson Forgive the shameless attempt to brag about mine and my wive’s recent baking but see our Yule log inspired ‘Colin’ the caterpillar cake using the @freyacox_ vegan Yule log recipe as a base. It was Freya’s birthday cake, but the way.

English

Yule Log is #RecipeOfTheDay – and it’s much easier to make than you might think. It’s also flourless and therefore #glutenfree. Plus it’s this month’s nigella.com Cookalong, and a link to that is in the intro to the recipe nigella.com/recipes/yule-l…
