ANOTHER TOP EPISODE IN THE TANK!👍🏼
Pleasure to welcome Integrate's very own Abi Bramwell to the podcast studio yesterday, as my guest on From The Courtroom To The Boardroom.
We talked "Sales" in the Legal Sector. To be honest, I wince at this word as I'm not a fan of being sold to.
Abi explained how successful business development in legal tech is not about the "hard sell". On the contrary, collaboration; referral and a desire to help professional clients will always get the warmest reception.
Great episode.👏🏼

THE JUSTICE CRISIS - TECH IS THE ONLY SOLUTION!👍🏼
At an event organised by the Motor Accident Solicitors Society (MASS), District Judge Hennessey accurately summed up the extent of the justice crisis.
The Judge urged law firms to make adjustments to their internal processes and to take into account the pressure that the National Civil Justice Centre is under.
Specifically, Judge Hennessey suggested that law firms needed to submit court proceedings well in advance of limitation, to avoid worry about that dreaded date being missed.
Credit to the Judge for stating facts and for standing up for the beleaguered staff at the Justice Centre.
However, it's about time that everyone involved in Civil Justice - from the Ministry of Justice UK to the whole sector - acknowledged that we must invest in technology or risk becoming overwhelmed.
My advice to Law firms is simple - go back to basics.
You need a case management system which allows for precise key dates recording with multiple escalation points. Crucially, to ensure that your teams embrace the technology, it's so important to demonstrate mutual benefit.
Law firms have a great opportunity to get their platform rock solid in readiness for the advancing technology coming down the track.
The current justice crisis demands action! ⚖️

CELEBRATING NATIONAL ENTREPRENEUR WEEK! 🎉
📚 "Entrepreneur: a person who makes money by starting or running businesses, especially when this involves taking financial risks." - Oxford English Dictionary.
When I wandered out of Chester College of Law for the final time in 1999, student loaned up to the teeth and ready to start my legal career, I didn't know what "Entrepreneur" meant.🤔
Nearly 25 years on and I still don't think I've grasped it 😂And do you know what? I don't think I need to.
I'm very lucky to have in my network dozens of Legal and Legal tech folks who have taken the plunge into business ownership and leadership, with all of the highs, lows, laughs, tears, excitements and frustrations that entails.
My definition of entrepreneur? The conviction to ride all of these waves and keep moving forward.🚀
So today I salute you all! 👏🏼

DON'T LOOK BACK IN ANGER!
In the past week, I have spoke to a number of businesses in the Legal sector who have taken the strategic decision to switch Case Management Systems.
In my experience, this process is a generational decision and part of the life cycle of leadership and management change in most businesses.
Yet some incumbent providers seem to make it as difficult as possible for clients to move on, often citing some fairly left field rational "the data belongs to us"😂.
Here's my blog setting out why - in my view - these businesses have it wrong both strategically and legally.

Hope you enjoy it👍🏼

My guest on this week’s Episode of From The Courtroom To The Boardroom is Nik Ellis , the founder of Laird Assessors.
I hope you enjoy this chat as much as I did. Nik has been a Pioneer in Legal Tech and is one of the smartest operators in the sector.
I first instructed Lairds during my Legal Career in the early 2000’s. In those days. I used to instruct by phone, reading out client’s vehicle details from my illegible written notes. Nik and I had a giggle about that on the pod.
PI Lawyers, do you remember those days?🤔
The journey that Nik and Lairds have been on in the past 20 years is so impressive. The level of automation that Lairds Assessors have achieved whilst preparing the ground for artificial intelligence is fascinating.
I hope you enjoy the podcast – here’s a clip.
Nik, thanks for your company 👍

🔗 Why Law Firms Need Legal Tech Solutions that Connect, Not Restrict
In today's evolving digital landscape, law firms seek legal tech solutions that seamlessly connect with the broader tech ecosystem. This is not just a preference—it's an imperative.
📍 Five reasons this is crucial:
Scalability: Just as LinkedIn seamlessly integrates with iPhones, allowing easy sharing of photos and articles, law firms need tech solutions that can grow and adapt with their changing needs.
Efficiency: Integration reduces the need for manual data transfer, streamlining processes and reducing the risk of errors.
Client Experience: Clients expect timely and integrated solutions. When tech ecosystems are isolated, the client experience suffers due to delays and inefficiencies.
Innovation: A connected ecosystem fosters innovation. Law firms can leverage the best tools in the market, rather than being confined to one platform's limitations.
Competitive Edge: To remain ahead in the market, law firms need to adopt the best tech solutions. Interconnected systems provide them a strategic advantage.
❌ Tech products or services that remain isolated are doing a disservice:
It's like imagining a world where LinkedIn doesn't allow you to share your achievements, articles, or photos directly from your iPhone. It limits potential, stunts growth, and impedes progress.
Law firms deserve better. Let's prioritize connection in our tech solutions! 💼🌐 #LegalTech #Connectivity #LawFirms #Innovation

TO ACQUIRE OR NOT TO ACQUIRE?🤷🏼
It's an exciting time to be in the legal sector. With more change on the horizon in a range of work types, firms will be looking to acquire, merge and consolidate.
Here is Julie Wilkinson, talking us through the role of technology in successful acquisitions on From The Courtroom To the Boardroom. Julie is quite right in saying that quality technology cannot overcome poor business process.
I was so pleased to hear the news from Steve Din that Doorway Capital would be continuing to support law firms with acquisitive business plans. It is reassuring to see a funder with continuing commitment to the legal sector.
Best of luck to the Doorway team and of course their clients.🤞🏻

Terrific episode of From the courtroom to the Boardroom recorded yesterday with my guest Nik Ellis 🎙️, the leader of Laird Assessors, who provide data analytics and intelligent expert analysis for the vehicle automotive sector. 🗠
When I was as PI Lawyer, I first instructed Lairds back in 2001. In those days, instructions were provided by phone with registration numbers being read from hand written notes.
The progress that Nik and Lairds have made across the last 22 years is an inspiring business story. We talked about the Swiftcase system which Nik and his team have built from scratch; the emergence of #generativeai in the legal sector and the importance of finding your "why?" when considering embracing tech.
Subscribe to the pod on YouTube and you'll know the moment this great episode lands. 🎉

@inspiredcat 100% correct. Use Chat GPT to do the heavy lifting but good lawyers always mark their own homework 👍

The next couple of years should be about all law firms building the strongest platform through which to embrace advancing solutions like #ai whilst also continuing their learning journey in all things tech related.

@andywhyte That's a great example of how LLM's can take the heavy lifting out of many legal processes, leaving the Lawyers to focus on advice and strategy 👍
English

Encouraging. If #LLMs are to deliver their potential in #legal we'll need law firms, the judiciary and regulators pulling in the same direction.

🔥Tough week of mistakes and failure? Be Your Own Best Mate🌟
If your best mate is going through a tough time, would you respond to a request for support with blame and a summary of the various catastrophes that could follow their mistakes and failure?
Of course you wouldn't as you aren't that much of a****ole!
So why do we turn into our own worst critics the minute something goes away in our own lives? It's hard to fathom, but we all do it.
You make a bad decision. Do you tell yourself, "Okay, let's fix this and learn from it," or is it more like, "This is a terrible situation, which I have caused. I will now have to bear the consequences"?
Got to admit I tend to lean towards the latter 🔄
So after a tough week, I'm going to try to treat myself like I would my best best mate. If you have had a similar time since Monday, give yourself a break, extend the same rational advice, and pivot towards solutions.👊
Have a great weekend and come out positively on Monday!

@markosokolich @TheEconomist I would say courts, clients, regulators, professional indemnity insurers and lawyers. AI will not replace high quality legal advice. It will facilitate advice being delivered more efficiently

If AI can do in 20 seconds a task that would have taken a dozen associates 50 hours each, then why would big firms continue hiring dozens of associates? econ.st/3EIOAe1
