incredibly funny stuff from a country obsessed with a beverage made from a plant that does not grow in their climate

National food security should be a top priority!🙌🏼

@BarrowAFC They’ve trained in that area for years. Evatt introduced it. It’s only moving venue isn’t it?

Barrow AFC are delighted to announce that the Club will relocate its first team training operations to Tameside Stadium, the home of Curzon Ashton, ahead of the 2026/27 season. 🏟️

@WhiteHouse I do love the fact that he never set foot on what is now the USA, but apparently ‘discovered’ the gaff??

@AmoaHamlet Got a shellacking at Waterloo, The Nile, a kicking by Wellington and cocked up the Russia campaign. Other than that - yeah - winner

GENIOS MILITARES

@faisalislam All school children. I got one and the local council also bought all children in the borough a mug!

Chair Kirsty Brimelow KC spoke to Joshua Rozenberg on the Lawyer Writes podcast this week about what's next for the Courts and Tribunals Bill.
Report stage is the next stage, when the bill - which includes the proposal to limit jury trials - will have a thorough debate.
As Kirsty explained, this is an important stage as even though the government has a majority, there are a number of rebel MPs who are against reducing jury trials.
We will continue to put forward our evidence based arguments on behalf of the profession that we know will go to the heart of the problem and reduce the inefficiencies in the courts.

@sean_antrim @jonsopel Lost 3 out of 4 elections and still thought he should have been party leader!
English

@jonsopel He was also the last Prime Minister to contest another General election as party leader after leaving office.

It’s called tradition. I am no historian but it is likely that the custom of barristers wearing wigs predates the foundation of the USA probably by years, if not decades.
We lose our traditions, customs and quirks, however (old-fashioned or slightly eccentric) at our peril.

Streeting is positioning himself in the letter as saying what matters is the departure of the prime minister, and NOT a rapid election that might or might not benefit him Streeting as a candidate.
He wants “all the best talent” in that leadership contest, including Andy Burnham, says one of his close colleagues.
So he supports a long enough election timetable to allow Burnham to fight a by-election and return to parliament in time for a leadership contest.
This has one of two possible outcomes. Starmer may just tell him to hop off and he Starmer will remain in post, at least for a few weeks and months.
Or the pressure on Starmer to stand down from other ministers and MPs will become irresistible and he will quit.
It’s hard to read in this instant.
Robert Peston@Peston
This is Streeting’s trenchant critique of Keir Starmer “But where we need vision, we have a vacuum. Where we need direction, we have drift. This was underscored by your speech on Monday. Leaders take responsibility, but too often that has meant other people falling on their swords. You also need to listen to your colleagues, including backbenchers, and the heavy-handed approach to dissenting voices diminishes our politics.”
English

@Keir_Starmer I know you have bigger fish to fry, but it isn’t ’your Government’ - you are His Majesty’s Prime Minister - the Government remains his.

@BarbaraRich_law @v_j_freeman We expect immediate polish. I confess I am not a Conservative, and indeed her earlier performances were uninspiring, but Thatcher was opp leader from 1975 and there is little to see of any form a ‘quality’ for years. I didn’t like her, but the finesse came after years!
English

@v_j_freeman I heard her speak on Sunday and thought her very impressive. Her party has huge legacy and structural problems in restoring its electoral fortunes, but it’s a pleasure to see her hammering a Labour front bench that has been too keen to condescend to her
English

Streeting desperately trying not to smile, McFadden just beaming, & some marvellous Kemi side eye
