Imagine an employer that pushes you to the breaking point and is upset if you take a vacation after a grueling time of the year finishes? Now imagine if it isn't the employer pushing, but the clients? Then ask yourself: Am I that client elsewhere?

My biggest regret is not sticking to my guns earlier in my career and saying family first. Take it or leave it. I never missed an event or soccer game for my kids. But flying in for my grandmother's funeral, hugging everyone, and immediately flying back home because it was tax season wasn't family first. And driving back and forth 2 hours each way in between soccer matches multiple times in one weekend to show up in the office because it was tax season wasn't family first. I was trying to show staff I was committed to them and clients, as we had recently acquired a firm. I should have shown I was committed to my life and family and the work would get done another way. I changed my ways when I went out on my own and my new staff were given completely different rules to follow, but I should have done so sooner. We need to do better as leaders. #TaxTwitter

@CBarrett_CPA @MikeSyl36625988 I wasn't even receiving invites. Incognito works IF email invite comes through. But if we never receive the invite, it's not a cache issue. I think this is what Mike may be experiencing as well? I had to create a new email account.

@MikeSyl36625988 I have this issue periodically. Incognito or clearing cache/cookies has always done the trick for me.

Another reason to be disgusted with Intuit and QuickBooks Online. Poll at the end. Too make a long story short we switched to Microsoft 365. QBO invites for 2 of our 9 work emails no longer can get QBO invitations. After extensive troubleshooting internally, by our IT people, and by Intuit we have decided that we will never get those two emails to be able to get QBO invites correctly without doing a workaround. There are workarounds that will work. I am relatively certain that Intuit has an old email list somewhere that they can no longer update or fix and this is actually effecting our two oldest email accounts (Mine and Karena's) and anyone who we setup an email for 2008 or after works fine. I see this has happened to several other people in the Intuit forums and they (and we) have been told by Intuit that Intuit cannot fix it. Note Intuit could fix it; however, they choose not to IMO. Has this happened to you? If yes please tell me about it in the comments!

I had to create a new email account that I use only for Intuit invites. Absolutely ridiculous that we have to find these workarounds. My email is hosted through Google, but I also have Microsoft 365. I don't believe it's a Google issue since creating the new email worked immediately.

@cbriancpa Please remind me of this rule next year as I'm trying to wrap up a set of stupidly messy returns. Definitely relaying that message before tax season this year though. Firm calendar going put for the whole year in December. No reason to get us things at the 11th hour.

@ArthurJSpring @LuciaPacioli I now put in my instructions that I am required by law to e-file within a certain amount of time after receiving the 8879, so please review carefully as any changes may require that an amended return be filed and will be charged extra. Not one single "Oops!" this year. 😁

And then we crap on each other. I see comments amongst pros about horrible customer service. As I get an email from a small business client that she may not have things for me this week, is there another extension. No, there is not. And I've offered to help set up processes all summer to avoid this situation. My hours are full this week. We'll have to chat after 10/16. I'm not refusing to give customer service, I'm just refusing to put out a fire that isn't mine and shouldn't have existed.

@SimplyStatedFin @CertTaxCoach It’s one of the reasons I point this out. Too many tax pros allow it and the public perception is that’s ok to crap on tax pros. The profession needs to change. Even the WSJ sees it!

How many tax pros have their clients overpay and then file the return after the deadline to avoid burnout in October? No reason to work OT or this weekend if they are overpaid. Does anyone do this? If not, why? #TaxTwitter

You hit the nail on the head. Clients procrastinate all summer and then we have a million reasons why it's our fault and we kill ourselves (literally sometimes) meeting deadlines for them. I sound like a jerk on here sometimes saying I push back and tell them they're out of luck, but sometimes we continue to enable this behavior. Then we only have ourselves to blame.

@CPATaxTeam I think people are missing your point -its not your problem.Simply because tp asked for help before deadline doesn’t require you to get it done timely.Nothing in Circ 230 says you must.THEY missed the deadline period. I’ve no issue disclosing that and not timely filing.

I gave a client a firm deadline last week to get me missing documents that I had requested several times. I got a message first thing this am that he would upload them right away. Sorry, but I'm not stressing this week. I have other clients to focus on too. I sent multiple reminders and he's had MONTHS to get me those documents. I won't enable this behavior anymore. Sometimes it takes a penalty to get their attention. There are consequences for our actions in life.

@The_CPA_Guy Oh my goodness. Her video about waking up at 11, going full glam, and then napping all afternoon speaks volumes. I should ask my 20 & 17 y/o's the chances of this happening in our house. 😉

They've been a client for several years. I know the business well enough to know better. Amd I peeled under the hood in QBO a bit. I know some can do very well. This isn't the case. They had about 8 "bank" accounts set up in QBO for everything they ever do with cash. Getting a money order isn't a bank account. 😉 They don't know what they're doing but haven't reached out for help with bookkeeping. I was going to help them clean up (again) for tax prep, but decided it wasn't the right course of action in this case. They need a more cost-efficient bookkeeper. And we're in a lower cost area. House cleaning might be $75. His wife got another job because they didn't have enough business. Nothing adds up.

Just chiming in as I agree with the bookkeeping being important but why write off the idea that simple house cleaning business can't generate those revenue figures? Home cleaners usually charge 120 to 150 minimum upwards to 350 to 500 depending on zip code, services, and clientele. 3 cleanings a day for 5 or 6 days a week can be that amount or above. If they're collecting payments via Venmo Zelle or CC, it's even more reliable proof of income. Cash income I would say they may not be recording all the time. Income is one area of concern, but showing too high of an expense is a bigger concern. Much bigger.

Logged into a client's QuickBooks account this morning. Shows $161k in income for 2021 and $83k for 2022. I KNOW these figures are junk. They're low income. I would bet my house they don't have $160k sitting in their bank account. It's a one person cleaning business. Sent email to client with rough tax figures based on these junk numbers. Also sent them a bookkeeping referral. They won't be able to pay my fee on this cleanup. This is why (well, one reason why) bookkeeping is important!! 🤦🏼‍♀️ #TaxTwitter
