Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has approved a ₦200,000 increase in the monthly salary of doctors in Delta State and a ₦100,000 tax-free allowance for house officers, as part of efforts to attract and retain medical professionals in the state. Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, announced during a press briefing that entry-level doctors will now earn ₦570,000 monthly, up from ₦370,000, while house officers’ pay will rise from over ₦250,000 to above ₦350,000, under the governor’s approved “MORE Special Allowance.” The commissioner said the approval followed the low turnout of doctors in the ongoing recruitment of over 700 health workers, despite more than 6,000 applications received, expressing confidence that the improved pay will attract more doctors while assuring that the process will remain strictly merit-based and free of any form of payment.

It is a calm morning, and perhaps a good moment for a gentle ancestral reminder to Ekpeye people, and to some ever-enthusiastic people who, with admirable confidence, like to claim everything under the sky,living in a fool's paradise, drawing new map every hour and attempting to annex what is clearly distinct Let us pause, breathe, and return to facts. EKPEYE IS NOT IGBO. And just as importantly, Igboid does not mean Igbo. This is not opinion. This is classification, supported by recognised linguistic authorities such as Glottolog, Ethnologue, and works by scholars like Kay Williamson and Roger Blench So let us lay it out properly, without noise, without sentiment, and without confusion. 1. Atlantic–Congo is one of the major branches within the wider Niger–Congo language family, and it contains about 1,408 languages. 2. Under Atlantic–Congo comes Volta–Congo. 3. Under Volta–Congo comes Benue–Congo, which contains about 1,001 languages. 4. Under Benue–Congo is Igboid, which contains 7 languages. Now, this is where clarity is required. 5. Igboid is a subgroup of languages. It is not the same thing as Igbo. So when a language is described as Igboid, it simply means it belongs to that wider family not that it is Igbo. 6. Under Igboid, there are two main classifications: a. Ekpeye b. Nuclear Igboid This alone should settle many unnecessary arguments. 7. Ekpeye stands as Ekpeye. It is recognised as its own branch within Igboid not as a dialect under Igbo. 8. Ekpeye has four dialects: a. Ako b. Igbuduya c. Ubye d. Upata 9. Nuclear Igboid then has three further families: a. Central–Northern Igbo b. Ogba c. Ikwerre 10. Under Central–Northern Igbo, we find about four languages, including: a. Igbo b. Ika c. Izi–Ezaa–Ikwo–Mgbo d. Ukwuani–Aboh–Ndoni So let us say it plainly and without apology. 11. Igbo is within Igboid, but Igbo is not the owner of Igboid. Igbo does not define every language in that subgroup. Igbo does not absorb every language in that subgroup. Igbo does not cancel the identity of Ekpeye or any other member of that group. 12. Ekpeye and Igbo are of the same Igboid group but they are not the same language. Relationship is not identity. Similarity is not ownership. Classification is not conquest. 13. Ekpeye is recognised as a distinct language on its own, with its own dialects and its own place in the Igboid subgroup. That is the point. 14. Therefore: a. Igboid is wider than Igbo b. Igbo is one member of Igboid c. Ekpeye is another distinct member of Igboid d. Ekpeye is not Igbo This is not sentiment. This is not rivalry. This is not propaganda. This is simply the discipline of calling things by their proper name. And as long as careless narration continues, we will continue calmly and clearly to correct it. Ekpeye is Ekpeye. Igbo is Igbo. Igboid is a wider group, not anybody’s private property. Eeteke. Ekpe. Uuwo.
