@CorenLaVolpe I pull argue that they fulfilled a role for what he needed at the time. Simba needed friends and people to care and Timon and Pumba were that. They taught him how to relax and be carefree. But eventually Simba didnt need that anymore and they had to adjust.

Timon and Pumbaa can represent the "Temptation" in Hero's journey terms. Simba has to return to claim his birthright and save Pride Rock, but that's difficult and scary and his time with them in the jungle is a symbol of his cowardice and inability to overcome his trauma. It's safe for him, it's comfortable. Why should he care about others when he's doing alright? It's not a heroic attitude at all.
When Simba is called to return, Timon and Pumbaa's influence is the reason he hesitates. He has to overcome that to fulfill his duty and self-actualize. I wouldn't say Timon and Pumbaa completely qualify as being antagonists in this scenario, especially because they come with the lions to help out, but it's undeniable that the attitude they raised Simba with was not what he needed, and not what his people or land needed.

Mind you this is the lowest score a mushoku tensei episode has gotten when ep 4 is the best ep of s3 already. Ratings don't matter anymore, this episode had 0 controversial things, yet it's the lowest score an mt episode has gotten... so depressing.

dont tie the value of media that you were able to personally connect with to what people are rating on public database sites cus some of the best anime ive ever seen has a 6/10 on anilist/MAL and some of the worst anime ive ever seen has an 8/10 on anilist/MAL. it doesnt matter!!

This has to be ragebait. Gaming journalism doesn’t pay enough, so they’ve resorted to attacking Mushoku Tensei instead.
Rudeus starts as a deeply broken person carrying trauma from his previous life. The actual story is about him growing and becoming a better person in his second life. Reducing the whole thing to “50-year-old groomer” completely misses that.

Please stop recommending Mushoku Tensei. The fact that the protagonist of the story is a 50-year-old groomer in the body of a teenager certainly isn't a positive for me, but there's another, simpler reason I cannot recommend that you waste your time on Mushoku Tensei: it's just poorly written. kotaku.com/mushoku-tensei…

I think a lot of people miss what the author was trying to explore.
Rudy wasn’t introduced as a role model. He was introduced as someone who wasted his life after years of bullying, isolation, and shutting himself off from the world.
People like that exist in real life today. They’re socially withdrawn, emotionally stunted, and escape into fantasy because reality has completely defeated them.
The fantasy isn’t there to reward Rudy’s past. It’s there to ask a question:
“If someone who completely failed at life was given a genuine second chance, could they become a better person?”
You don’t have to like Rudy. You don’t have to forgive everything he does.
But reducing the entire story to “the author supports this behavior” ignores the larger theme of redemption, growth, and rebuilding a life from absolute rock bottom.
Sometimes it’s worth asking what a story is trying to explore instead of assuming it’s endorsing every action its protagonist takes.

Guess who stayed at the park for 1.5 hours longer than intended because her little brother lost the car keys and despite looking for it longer than we actually swam we had to call our parents from a stranger's phone for them to get the backup key just so we could go home
