There's a thing all these hiring posts never talk about. What happens in the months between "hired on the spot" and "leads the team." It was about 5 months into @shownmedia and I'm in this meeting and someone's asking me to make a call on something, like an actual decision that affects the whole team's workflow, and I realize halfway through answering that they're actually waiting for my answer. Which is strange because I don't remember anyone sitting me down and saying "you're leading this now," it just sort of... happened. Because I'm 9 months in now, been leading a team of motion designers for almost 5 of those months. And I know what you're thinking 'five months isn't enough time to go from motion designer to leading a team' But why not? What's the actual thing that's supposed to take longer? The skill? The experience? Or just the waiting, the years of proving you're ready before anyone lets you try? The designer with the broken portfolio didn't become great here. She was already great. I just joined @shownmedia. For the past 7 years, I worked with creators like MrBeast, Drew Dirksen, Funk Bros and many other creators that have in a sense hacked the algorithm.
