A Mother Died. The Train Didn't Stop.
On 12 July 2026, aboard Train No. 12216 Garib Rath Superfast (Bandra–Delhi Sarai Rohilla), a woman lost her life after emergency medical help could not reach her in time.
Co-passengers pleaded with the TTE to halt the train at the nearest station so an ambulance could attend to her. The request was refused.
She died during the journey.
The most heartbreaking part? Her 18-year-old son, who was traveling with her, still believed his mother had only fainted.
A thorough inquiry is needed to determine whether railway staff followed emergency protocols and whether this tragedy could have been prevented.

Karnataka: After outrage on social media over the collection of caste details from Gruha Jyoti beneficiaries, @NammaBESCOM clarified that providing beneficiary category (caste) information is entirely optional.
BESCOM staff have been collecting beneficiary data throughSeva Sindhu mobile application & printed declaration forms since July 1.
"If a beneficiary chooses not to disclose their caste details, field staff have been instructed to select the "Refused to provide information" option in the mobile application" : Bescom.

Meter readers & ESCOM staff will visit homes to verify beneficiary details, collect information & complete the process through a mobile app & declaration form. Like - if the person is APL, "Others" caste, Not from this state, doesn't have Voter ID if from this state, then will the system reject them ?

Gruha Jyothi beneficiary verification begins July 1
All ESCOMs in Karnataka will begin door-to-door verification of Gruha Jyothi beneficiaries from July 1 to identify ineligible consumers and ensure benefits reach genuine households.
Officials will verify details including account holder name, Aadhaar, occupancy status, mobile number, ration card, voter ID, applicant photo, beneficiary category, PAN (if applicable), profession and income tax status @NammaBESCOM

Karnataka CM @DKShivakumar said no eligible beneficiary should face hardship & only ineligible beneficiaries and misuse of guarantee schemes must be stopped. He said many Gruha Lakshmi beneficiaries changed bank accounts after loan repayments were auto-debited from credited amounts. Misuse, including payments to deceased beneficiaries, multiple beneficiaries using one account, Airtel Payments Bank UPI accounts, & accounts outside Karnataka, must be curbed. The AG reported Rs 60 crore paid through three lakh instalments due to anomalies. Gruha Jyothi has 1.65 crore beneficiaries, while Shakti has enabled 763 crore free trips at a cost of Rs 20,047.69 crore till May 2026. Under Anna Bhagya, Rs 11,561 crore has been transferred through DBT & 5 kg additional rice is being distributed to 4.44 crore beneficiaries. Govt also plans to issue 10 lakh student bus passes in 2026-27 & crack down on black-market sale of Anna Bhagya rice.
