6 The system itself needs reform. Few politicians are willing to argue publicly for higher parliamentary staffing budgets because many people assume everyone in parly are already earning huge salaries. That simply isn’t the reality for a lot of staff.

5/6 This is not just a Labour MP issue. It affects parliamentary staff across all parties. Staff do the bulk of the day-to-day casework, correspondence and policy support, but there’s little public sympathy for people who work in politics.

UK GDP per head grew by 0.6% in q1 2026 to which is the fastest economic growth per capita in a quarter for 4 years… UK GDP growth itself is fastest of the 6 G7 countries that have reported so far (and Japan expected at 0.4%, would be fastest full stop) Quite the backdrop for a leadership challenge…

The Tories destroyed Port Talbot. Labour is investing in Port Talbot to bring back those jobs. I’m sick of Plaid and Reform types making capital from something they know nothing about. Speaking as a Port Talbot native, we live and breathe steel. We know exactly who’s to blame!

Except in Port Talbot where they sold out 2000 workers. Any wonder why Welsh Labour lost on Thursday? Wales can’t be ignored any longer.

@isaac_kh You don’t have to look far in Parliament to find staff who’ve experienced horrendous abuse, and it’s becoming increasingly common. The approach that’s been agreed strikes a balance between transparency and protecting staff.

@isaac_kh MPs are public figures and have security and protections that come with that role. As staff we don’t. Publishing the details of thousands of employees without those protections creates risks that wouldn’t be considered acceptable in most other workplaces.

Transparency matters, but so does staff safety. These are not public figures and can become targets because of where they work. Oversight remains, the question is how to balance it with basic protections. Dismissing the risk entirely misses the point.
Gabriel Pogrund@Gabriel_Pogrund

An outrageous decision in which MPs are judge jury and executioner on a decision that 🥁🥁🥁 surprise … shields them from basic scrutiny. Just like the Commons under Bercow voting to overturn centuries old precedent to automatically name arrested MPs, the pendulum swings from public interest to a self-interested, self-defined notion of privacy:

Workers’ rights, including the right to safety at work, shouldn’t depend on whether people approve of your employer or your politics. Those protections should apply to everyone.

I’ve also heard some pretty shocking accounts from colleagues, with staff being attacked, verbally abused, cars broken into and people being harassed simply for doing their jobs.
