PRESS STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE GOVERNMENT’S FAILURE TO IMPLEMENT CIVIL SERVANTS’ SALARY INCREMENT IS A BETRAYAL OF WORKERS The Labour Economists and Afrikan Democrats (LEAD) notes with grave concern the Government’s failure to honour its March 2026 commitment to increase civil servants’ salaries effective April 2026. To date, no such adjustment has been effected. This is not merely an administrative delay. It is evident and a clear act of negotiating in bad faith. If anything had gone wrong surely a statement would have been in order to calm down already struggling civil servants. When a government makes a public commitment to its workers and fails to follow through, it erodes trust, undermines institutional integrity, and exposes thousands of families to deepening economic vulnerability. Civil servants like teachers, nurses, administrative staff, and other public sector workers are already operating under extremely difficult conditions, with wages that have long been eroded by inflation and currency instability. To promise relief and then fail to deliver it is not just irresponsible. It is cruel and not being considerate to the socioeconomic burdens civil servants continue to carry to have this country functioning. LEAD strongly condemns this pattern of deception and disregard for workers’ welfare. Such conduct entrenches precarious living conditions, where workers are unable to plan, meet basic needs, or sustain their households with dignity. It is unacceptable that those who keep the machinery of government running are treated with such contempt. We must be clear, giving a salary increment to already underpaid vivil servants is not a favour to workers. It is an obligation. The Government’s continued failure to implement agreed salary adjustments reflects a broader systemic problem of poor governance, lack of accountability, and disregard for labour rights as enshrined in the Constitution of Zimbabwe, particularly the right to fair and safe labour practices. LEAD therefore demands the following: ▪︎Immediate implementation of the promised salary increment, with full transparency on the structure and effective date; ▪︎Payment of any arrears owed from April 2026 to date; ▪︎A clear, time-bound framework for future salary reviews tied to inflation and cost of living; ▪︎Genuine, good-faith engagement with civil servants’ representatives moving forward. Zimbabwe can not rebuild its economy on the backs of exploited and demoralised workers. A nation that neglects its civil servants is a nation that is actively undermining its own future. We stand in full solidarity with all civil servants and call upon them to remain united in demanding justice, dignity, and fair compensation. The era of empty promises must come to an end. Zimbabwean banking math be like:
You borrow from the bank at 20%+
You save in the bank at less than 5%
Then inflation & charges enter the chat like:
“Zvirisei your money has been reviewed and adjusted downward.
So basically:
•Borrowing = high blood pressure
•Saving = slow economic funeral
•Bank charges = silent opposition
•Inflation = the real president of your wallet
You put money in the bank to protect it asi panopera gore balance yako is looking like a campaign promise which is big on paper but small in reality🤯
MuZimbabwe saving in a bank can actually feel like ‘Thank you for trusting us with your money. Unfortunately your money has now joined the national struggle.’
Moral of the story is kana bank richikubhadhara 5% and the economy is taking 15% you are not saving you are donating.
Thank you for paying attention to this matter!!

Bankers, economists, help me understand this in the Zimbabwean context. When you go to a bank for a loan, you are charged more than 20 percent interest per year. But when you keep your money in the same bank, they give you less than 5 percent per year. The difference is just too big. In Zimbabwe, where prices keep going up and bank charges are high, your money actually loses value in the bank. By the time you account for fees and inflation, you are worse off than when you started. So why would anyone keep their money in the bank? It ends up feeling like you are being punished for saving. And if people stop saving through banks, what happens to the whole system? @admire_dube @tmukogo @baba_nyenyedzi @rufarogz @andrea_hoxbucks @SMRI_Institute @kudzie_sharara @brains_muchemwa @percyconsult

ED can be constitutionally removed from office by the Senate & National Assembly through "a joint resolution passed by at least one-half of their total membership" for, among other things, "failure to obey, uphold or defend this Constitution" or for "wilful violation of this constitution." He can also be removed for "inability to perform the functions of the office because of physical or mental incapacity." (Section 97(b)(c)(d). ED has actually been taken to the constitutional court (CCZ 8/26) for failing to "obey, uphold or defend the constitution." His conduct in aiding and abetting the violation of section 328(7) of the constitution by chairing a cabinet meeting which deliberated the extension of his term from 5 to 7 years contrary to section 328(7) amounts to "wilful violation" of the constitution which warrants his dismissal. It also shows his "failure to obey, uphold or defend" the constitution. There are just too many grounds for the removal of ED from office and these grounds are provided for in the constitution. So don't lie that ED cannot be constitutionally removed from office when the constitution provides, in section 97, for the "Removal of President or Vice-President from Office." Anobaya ED, rakacheka nyika. #2030EDAnegeAsipo #Ngazvitenderere

Saying "ED must go" is unconstitutional because he was lawfully elected by the majority and undermining that mandate violates the very Constitution we’re meant to uphold. Let’s debate fairly, but always within the rule of law.

@matinyarare 4/ Resolutions frequently emphasize "Party Supremacy over Government." Per Section 33(5), the CC is currently working on frameworks to ensure that government ministries align their annual plans directly with the goals set at the People’s Conference. #LeavingNoOneBehind

𝗗𝗜𝗗 𝗭𝗔𝗡𝗨 𝗣𝗙 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗚𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗙𝗬 𝗖𝗔𝗕𝟯 𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗢𝗟𝗨𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡? 𝗗𝗜𝗗 𝗜𝗧 𝗘𝗟𝗘𝗖𝗧 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟴-𝟯𝟮 𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗡𝗧? 𝗜𝗙 𝗡𝗢𝗧, 𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗜𝗦 𝗖𝗔𝗕𝟯 𝗦𝗨𝗣𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗘𝗗 𝗕𝗬 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗬? How can a decision that came from a Conference and not a 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 be said to be a party decision, when the party, through its Central Committee, is only entitled to execute policies or programs that are made by the 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲’𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀? Was CAB3 okayed by The People’s Congress for you to say that it enjoys the support of the party? No! Secondly, President ED has not been elected by Congress and should be serving his final term, which ends in 2028 according to the party constitution. So how can the current President be deemed to have succeeded to 2030 when he hasn’t won at Congress for him to be the ZANU PF leader from 2028-2032? You go on to say that Chiwenga has no support in the party. It’s too early to say that because at Congress next year, someone can nominate him and structures could vote for him as the new leader of ZANU PF, considering that the current President will have served his two terms is inallegeable to run again. Unless of course if ZANU PF has dumped its processes or it changes the constitution. Why wasn’t an extraordinary Congress held to allow Congress to pronounce itself on the CAB3 resolution and to select a new leader before CAB3 was pushed through? Because as it is, CAB3 is ultra vires. Finally, what made you feel that Chiwenga was taking aim at the President through his allegorical sermon which does not mention anyone’s name?
Sabhuku Temba P. Mliswa@TembaMliswa

This is as brazen an attack on the President as one can ever give and coming from his own Deputy its shocking. For one so close to the President to resort to this is diplomatically gross and strategically poor. The VP is now seriously endangering his standing by pandering to the whims of social media and the opposition by indulging in content creation. The subject matter which he poorly dresses in Biblical frocks instead of explicitly stating his opposition to CAB3, as any serious politician would do, shows his level of frustration. Politically the man has been outmanoeuvred and if he is sincere that he opposes what ZANU PF has come to represent then he should resign like any self-respecting leader. What he is contesting is a party decision and he can't continue within an entity whose thinking and direction he doesn't accept! Resigning, not metaphors, is the only redemptive path for him. He should resign and then canvass for the support of the opposition, which he is clearly pandering to, against his own party. CAB3 is not the product of any single individual but is a ZANU PF project, a party to which he belongs. He cannot reduce it to any single Hezekiah when he has been part of Cabinet that approved it. He failed to block the resolution from the Conference, Politburo, Central Committee, Cabinet, Public Hearings and we are now reaching the Parliament stage. For the ruling party he has become the main opposition, providing fodder for continued tension and instability through such veiled attacks. The biggest takeaway from all this is that he lacks the necessary political muscle and internal support for anything of significance. Thats a hard truth which the doomsday prophets should quickly recognise and stop putting pressure on him to become some action hero. Party members have accepted the party decisions and moved on. Only social media and the motley crowd of illusionists hanging in shadows amount to the "army" that are beckoning him into what will surely amount to self-immolation. Fuelled by this "virtual army" he has instigated multiple political infractions goading President Mnangagwa who has himself remained dignified and quiet. ED's patience and Long-Game tactics are clearly unsettling him. It's just that the political standards for the opposition, which has embraced him on social media, is very low such that they can't recognise the absurdity of the VP remaining part of the machinery which they deride and yet embrace him as a shining light. For the ruling party he is becoming a liability publicly questioning party resolutions and feeding the public mentality with treasonous thoughts.

#PiePatrol #OrientalPies #Bulawayo Pepper Steak Pie. Last year I reviewed the steak and kidney pie from Bulawayo’s iconic Oriental Pies on Ninth Avenue. That one caused a stir, especially from the Surrey Pie , Marondera fans.😆😆 Fast forward to Wednesday , I got my hands on their pepper steak pie. Missed the UK’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Pete “Samaita” Vowles,@PeteVowles by a whisker. Turns out he had just been there minutes before me, grabbing a few pies and chicken samoosas. 😅 Now, to the business at hand on behalf of @TeamFuloZim. This pie is packed, no guesswork required. From the first bite, you meet juicy, tender beef, well-seasoned , I’m thinking with crushed peppercorns doing most of the talking. It delivers exactly what it promises. No hunting around like that disappointing Pick 'n'Pay Northend; Bulawayo steak pie I had recently, where I needed three bites to find a lonely cube of beef. Here, every bite counts. No air pockets, no zero empty spaces, solid filling throughout. The pepper doesn’t rush you. It builds and hits the palate like an echo. Around the third bite, it settles in a gentle heat that lingers . It doesn't shout. Only drawback for me is the pastry. It’s a bit pale , "anaemic" and slightly doughy. It could use more browning and a touch of gloss to get that crisp, flaky finish , especially when you compare it to the Surrey Pie out in Marondera. At US$3, though, this is excellent value. Filling, full of flavour, and satisfying. Score: 8.5/10 . @TeamFuloZim #TheKingIsAround ##HappinessIsOurBusiness
