@Bollox17Jason @richarddeitsch @TheAthleticInk I agree, which would be compounded by more competition for airtime with Amer. Football and Baksetball.

@SkiJobe @richarddeitsch @TheAthleticInk I think one issue for the US and a winter schedule is the comparative lack of committed hard core fans, which is compounded by MLS.

Rebecca Lowe has some thoughts on MLS and American soccer. And it can be distilled in two words: Promotion/relegation. The latest @TheAthleticInk Media column: theathletic.com/465209/2018/08…

@Bollox17Jason @richarddeitsch @TheAthleticInk I’m sure they did. Although in the past MLS took a break during the group stage then continued play (most players who left for the WC weren’t on teams advancing to the knockout round) but WC summers are definitely an issue (as is transfer deadline conflicts)
English

@SkiJobe @richarddeitsch @TheAthleticInk I thought you meant it was a break in a conventional season. Presumably the Russians then had to alter or postpone their domestic season for the WC

@BrianGilchriest @richarddeitsch @TheAthleticInk To be fair, July in Dallas/Houston is miserable too. But I think summer heat is less complicated for players/facilities than winter snow.
English

@BrianGilchriest @richarddeitsch @TheAthleticInk For sure, the southern cities are warmer. It’s a big country. But SLC, Denver, Minneapolis, Chicago (normally), NYC/Boston (those are crap shoot winter seasons for snow) plus Canadian teams (Toronto / Montreal) all have major snow issues.
English

@Bollox17Jason @richarddeitsch @TheAthleticInk How is that different from current MLS schedule? We start play first weekend in March, regular season ends last bit of October. Playoffs through first week of December.
English

@Bollox17Jason @richarddeitsch @TheAthleticInk Hence why they don’t play from December to March. It’s like a 3 month break. Same issues here.

@randalserr @lucaswmuller I think we have a shot at a) playoffs and b) winning first round if offense clicks. But can’t see us doing deeper damage against better defenses without a stronger #9 scoring threat. I’m in the same camp: the right guy eventually, not “some” guy now
English

@lucaswmuller I'm in the camp of it not being detrimental by any means. But it would have helped. It's a minor setback.

@NBCSportsSoccer and whoever the dipshit is that wrote this tweet need to apologize. The dude is practicing and trying to improve. Plus, how ironic that in a tweet about “quirky language” the journalist butchered the English.

@rslsoapbox @TheCrossbarRSL What’s the situation with Soto? I’m assuming he doesn’t want to sign or else we’d already have signed him? (Or some other rule is preventing it. Wish we knew more about his status) He may not be ready yet, but I feel like he could grow into that position.

In the latest edition of The Salt, @TheCrossbarRSL tries to shove his foot in the transfer window before it slams shut—plus, Kyle Beckerman is still really good and deserves recognition. rslsoapbox.com/2018/8/7/17657…

@SLTID_Jake I think he struggled early to get adjusted to MLS, and people criticized him (unfairly) forgetting how hard it is to integrate to a new league (especially with a new system, style, travel, etc.) and now we’re seeing that full integration. Dudes a stud #GoodJobCraig #GoodJobAndy

#JamesBaldwin's response to a Yale professor asking “So why must we always concentrate on color?” is still the most fire answer in answer history. Happy Birthday!

@davisjsn @SiriusXMFC Gotta be Kyle Beckerman. Dudes an RSL legend with a bazillion records that will probably not be broken. Rimando in Sandy too. GOTY should just be named after Rimando and Kyle can get a statue.
