Honestly - a few of the replies to this little tribute to engineering excellence exhibit a level of stupidity that suggests to me that it won’t be long before our spacecraft are the only thing that remains of our increasingly dim-witted civilisation. Until recently my guess has been that the answer to the Fermi Paradox might be found in biology - complex biological systems are rare. I’m increasingly of the view that the reason for The Great Silence is that civilisations are inevitably crushed by the weight of nobheads shortly after inventing the internet.

@prigorodnoye @LuanHanratty Change the Moor's purpose one iota and it would be gone before you could blink. The Moor would be under concrete in a year. Diversity to the majority of property developers means having a MacDonald's outlet and a Burger King sharing the same car park.

@LuanHanratty I'd love to see it "rewilded" then it could truly be the lungs of the city and offset lots of carbon while allowing more diversity.

Newcastle is unique in having so much common land in the form of the Town Moor. Every town had a common for pasture and roaming, but these were sold off as urban centres grew. Through its preservation, we get a direct link going back to medieval times in the middle of the city.
