The discovery came during routine maintenance by city workers, sparking an urgent, multi-agency response involving the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), Brevard County Fire Rescue, University of Florida experts, and private towing services. Freeing the animal wasn't straightforward: crews had to cut through pavement and concrete to access the trap, then deploy a heavy-duty crane to carefully hoist the roughly 400+ pound creature vertically to safety after hours of coordinated effort that extended into the night. Onlookers gathered to cheer as the manatee—nicknamed "Melby" by some responders—was lifted free. Local resident Enda Cormican praised the unpaid volunteers and teams who worked tirelessly, describing it as a true community effort. The rescued manatee, found underweight with some wounds near its tail and flippers, was promptly transported to SeaWorld Orlando's rescue center for veterinary care and rehabilitation. @Politico, characterizing the legislation to prevent the 3.37% #Medicare physician pay cut as a "bonus" is disingenuous. The 1.68% relief (+ the 1.25% from last year) provided by #Congress not only doesn't prevent the full cut but the REAL cut = 10+%, when factoring in inflation & the annual 2% Medicare payment sequester. This additional relief is a drop in the bucket for what is necessary to keep medical practices afloat.
