Guilds have always been a great thing in most games, and although guilds have been a fun diversion for some of us, unfortunately, the resounding feedback from the community is that they feel more alienated than they ever did. Being a content creator, I cannot move for invites. But "Random Jeff," who has been looking for friends and now wants to join or even create a guild, has no help within the game to make this reality come true. This has been a problem since day one and is one of the most fundamental problems within Sea of Thieves. #SeaOfThieves is all about players coming together to adventure and make stories, but it also makes it nearly impossible for players to find like-minded crew members within the game itself. And I was shocked to find that, with the implementation of guilds, this was still not addressed. In order for a random player to create a guild, they have to use third-party channels such as Discord, websites, etc. to find what they need. Neither of which is ideal, as your request or promotion of a guild is shadowed in moments by thousands of other players requests and promotions. For guilds to actually be a successful concept for anyone playing, a "Guild Finder" needs to exist in the game, where players can post their guild, and those looking for guilds can request to join and either be accepted or denied. Anything less than that, and the system will simply cease to work for the average player. As stated before, being an active member of the community has its benefits; interacting with people on Twitter or owning or being part of a large discord comes with benefits where guilds are concerned, and I'm sure most people here haven't had that much of a problem getting into a guild or even creating one. But the evidence is there: YouTube comments, Twitter comments, and Twitch chats across the board. The general playerbase feels alienated and not "together," as the update promotes. It's my hope that in the months to come, the developers will work on bringing a much-needed Guild Finder API to the game to really make guilds feel inclusive to all players, and if that's something impossible to do within the game itself, then there will be a section on the website where people can post their guilds and players can request access. A forum dedicated to guild promotion or a Discord channel is not enough; this is daunting and bewildering, and most of the time it is just pages and pages of outdated information that is reliant on the guild leader to check their pings, invite them to be friends, and then invite them to the guild. There needs to be an automated system in place.
