@0394robert @JoshuaHedley Well the qualifier was "worse version of the genre". Meaning a worse version of emo. Specifically third wave. They're worse, bc they barely qualify to begin with, even at their most emo. And I don't think you can have a classic emo record if you make emo-ish-sometimes music.

@SkittishPariah @JoshuaHedley Sounds like you just don’t like poppier music, which doesn’t make anything “worse.” It’s just not your taste. You can disagree with FOB having classic genre records, but their first four albums in general are pretty well regarded now. You don’t have to be a fan to “get it.”

You can tell when people absolutely weren’t there, cause this band was a joke when they were current lol. Like nickelback levels of hate.

I also, clearly, disagree about them having a "best in the genre" record. EARLY Panic is better, bc they had Ryan Ross. Better lyrically and more original.

@SkittishPariah @JoshuaHedley Worse how? Lol. TTTYG and FUTCT are considered some of the best in the genre and IOH and FAD are great pop rock albums. This is also rich considering you put them below PATD, who I like, but had an identity crisis for years until it became Brendon’s solo project

@0394robert @JoshuaHedley They're not diet versions of each other, because they don't (or didn't in the early days) suck. They improve, or at least maintain instead of devolving. FoB is a worse version of the genre.

@0394robert @JoshuaHedley When I listen to early FoB, I find it very easy to hear what songs sound like which bands. e.g: "This sounds like Get Up Kids.", or TBS, Brand New, whatever. I hear the influence. I think it's worse. Therefore "diet". To you it may be "so different", but to me it isn't. I hear it

@SkittishPariah @JoshuaHedley I just don’t think the word means anything when any 2000s emo or pop punk band can be a diet version of The Get Up Kids or Saves the Dag just by influence.

@SkittishPariah @JoshuaHedley Just because they have influences doesn’t mean they’re diet versions unless they’re very close. TTTYG is a diet Saves the Day album but it didn’t extend much past that. They were influenced by Descendents and Metallica but they’re not diet versions of them either.

They made Take This To Your Grave in large part due to being inspired by TBS, Saves the Day, Get Up Kids, and Brand New. I would call them diet versions of all those bands, despite not sounding super similar

@SkittishPariah @JoshuaHedley Tbh I was mostly thinking of Tell All Your Friends and I don’t think FOB ever sounded as emo as that record does aside from them using the same melody of Cute’s chorus in Patron Saint. The other two albums I can give, but I still wouldn’t call them similar enough to be “diet”

@VoughtCrave Maybe it's because I didn't have insane expectations, but I feel the same way. I've enjoyed most of the season so far. And my favorite episode is King of Hell, which seems to be the least liked episode of the season by most people.

Me enjoying each episode of S5 just to go online and see the most miserable mfs week after week

@barrostom @JoshuaHedley Yeah, TBS had two really good records and FoB has Folie A Deux.. I guess? One thing I will say is that they suck equally now, but TBS has the better catalogue by miles. Mainstream appeal hasn't been a signifier of quality since maybe the 70s? Bits of the 80s and 90s too I guess

Dean getting beat to shit by Lucifer, Sam getting flashes of memories of their childhood playing in the backseat of baby, and then regaining control long enough to jump into the pit to save the world.
