@BethCavete And to anticipate the inevitable people who cannot read/think with any care, I am speaking of the universally known fact that the average age of exposure to explicit material is around nine or ten years old. Consent does not enter into that number.

My limited study of CSA (child sex abuse) began 25 years ago when I was a behavioral therapist with emotionally disturbed children. I understand my claim seems radical, but here's what I learned: 1/

@BethCavete Comparing a teenage girl being sexually assaulted to a teenage boy seeing a woman in a bikini is certainly a choice. Not a very good one, but it is a choice.

@JoshPhillipsPhD 5 years ago I won an award for teachers that carried a $1000 prize to be used for a campus project. I approached an indie book shop who found a donor to make up the difference & I got 1000 copies of Ivan Ilyich to give out to students. I just gave out the last one last month.

From startup to shutdown, loading Windows 2.11 and MS Word 1.1a on a 12MHz 286 computer with a whopping 1664KB of RAM. Not megabytes. Kilobytes. Note how snappy and responsive the user interface is, especially considering how slow this computer is.

From startup to shutdown, loading Windows 3.1, MS Word, and MS Excel on a 386DX-33 with 8MB of RAM, a significantly slower machine than the emulated one in the original video. And guess what? The user interface is still plenty responsive. 2000x less RAM than a typical modern PC

@JoshPhillipsPhD I jest. My son is reading Twain's criticisms against Fenimore Cooper at the table and laughing out loud and reading his favorite parts to me. Keep books available and your kids will discover the world.

If you’re a parent, please get books into your child’s bedroom. Lots and lots of books. Just having the option to flip through a book when they’re young will give them such an advantage when they get into the classroom. Sincerely A teacher

@BerithPress When you read the Koine Greek version, the translator used the same word for "chief end" that Aristotle used in book 1 of his Politics, where he stated the chief end of man is the political. It's a fun corrective against the great Philosopher.

It would horrify me to think anyone would learn the Shorter Catechism to "peacock" or show off their Latin. This book was designed specifically because children, already familiar with the Shorter Catechism, would have something (a) familiar & (b) edifying with which to study Latin. I added other ecumenical creeds, and the Ten Commandments too. I annotated the words with a numbering system to save having to look in the dictionary, and to give students a chance to learn Latin intuitively, with facing pages. Latin helps students understand English better, it helps you in fields such as medicine, and there is lots of great literature in Latin that realistically will not all be translated. For theological studies, of course it is very helpful. I believe it's very important to wear your learning lightly, as they say, and I would much rather someone learn his catechism in English and be regenerate than pridefully "peacock"; but this is a false dichotomy and very far from the intention of this book, which is to help parents teach their children, and learn some Latin themselves.

Learning the Shorter Catechism in Latin seems like a complete thumb in the eye to the actual purpose of the Shorter Catechism as designed by the Divines.

"I am a sick man...I am a spiteful man. I am an unattractive man. I believe my liver is diseased. However, I know nothing at all about my disease, and do not know for certain what ails me. I don't consult a doctor for it, and never have, though I have a respect for medicine and doctors. Besides, I am extremely superstitious, sufficiently so to respect medicine, anyway (I am well-educated enough not to be superstitious, but I am superstitious). No, I refuse to consult a doctor from spite."

Tolstoy is intimating because his great books are 800-1,500 pages long But they are not difficult to read Just think of it like reading a book series all crammed into one print
