The Real Mike Rowe

If you haven’t heard, and even if you have, Jimmy Kimmel said this about Markwayne Mullin, former Senator from Oklahoma, and our newest Secretary of Homeland Security: “We have a plumber now protecting us from terrorism.” Apparently, there has been some backlash. Plumbers were offended, obviously, as were parents of plumbers, spouses of plumbers, children of plumbers, and millions of people who have had a plumber show up when they needed one. Comedians were also offended, (the funny ones, anyway,) along with a surprising number of terrorists - especially those with access to hot and cold running water. However, in spite of the ensuing kerfuffle, @jimmykimmel doubled down. “I’m not upset that the head of Homeland Security was a plumber,” he said, “I’m upset that he isn’t still a plumber." He further elucidated by adding, "I wouldn't put a plumber in charge of Homeland Security for the same reason I wouldn't call a five-star general to pull a rat out of my toilet, OK? We all have our areas of expertise.” Being offended is always a choice, and I don’t choose to be offended by a joke, even one that comes at the expense of the skilled tradespeople my foundation tries to elevate. But I am a tad butt hurt by the suggestion that skilled workers should never evolve into something new, and that competence is somehow limited to one vocation. Obviously, expertise and skill are important. If I need a new kidney, I’d prefer a doctor do the surgery, not a late-night talk show host. But if the doctor in question used to host a talk show, why would I hold that against him? Ten years ago, during one of the presidential debates, @MarcoRubio answered a workforce-related question by arguing that America needed to get shop class back into high schools. He concluded by saying, “What our country needs are more welders and fewer philosophers.” A lot of people on this page commented that Rubio and I were singing from the same hymnal, but in fact, we weren’t. At least not entirely. Because I don’t think the current shortage of welders has anything to do with an overabundance of philosophers. In fact, I think it’s a mistake to promote one vocation at the expense of the other. What we really need in this country, are more welders who can talk intelligently about Aristotle, and more philosophers who can run an even bead. More Generals, in other words, who can fix their own toilets, and more plumbers who can hold a powerful government job. This is what Mullin did. He was a private citizen who mastered an essential skill and then turned that skill into a multi-million-dollar company that employed a lot of people and served a lot of customers. That gave him the freedom to do other things with his life, including a career in public service which got him into Congress, where he’s spent the last eleven years doing whatever Congressmen do. Now, he has a very consequential position in the Cabinet of the current administration. Is that not the embodiment of the American Dream? I get that Jimmy Kimmel might have a problem with Mullin’s politics, but what possible objection could he have about the trajectory of his career, or his desire to do more than one thing with his life? The only sensible thing to do in the wake of a moment this tone deaf, is remind America that the skills gap is wide, and getting wider. The shortage of skilled tradespeople is now headline news and closing it is nothing less than a matter of national security. This year, my foundation has set aside $10 million dollars to help train the next generation of plumbers, and lots of other essential workers. I'm talking about hundreds of thousands of AI-proof, six figure jobs that don't require a four-year degree, waiting to be filled. The money is currently available to anyone who wants to master a useful skill at mikeroweworks.org. Apply today. As for those of you genuinely offended by Kimmel's comments, consider expressing your disappointment with a modest donation to mikeroweWORKS. Our work ethic scholarship is making a real difference, and your money will be well spent, I promise. The donate button is big and red and hard to miss, at mikeroweworks.org I’d love to chat but I’ve gotta pull a rat out of my toilet…

"This isn’t just theft — it’s the kind of fraud that makes people lose faith in humanity.” Former Michigan Democratic Party Treasurer is found stealing from an 87-year-old woman. The woman dies. And somehow, the account is still being used. This is predatory FRAUD.

It wasn’t until tonight that I realized that after I first saw real combat [not we got shot at or the truck behind us took a hit… but I pulled a guy out of a wadi and put him on a bird missing parts and I really just hope he lived combat] I don’t have any pictures smiling. A lot of political opinions and overtures on this app. Even from combat vets like myself. Maybe we all need to take a stroll down memory lane and remember that day when we stopped smiling for pictures. When it was no longer exciting, but terrifying. Not the day we lost our nerve, but the day we actually found it. The day that the hypothetical became reality. The day we took a punch to the face and had to get up off the mat for more rounds. Remember that day and remember those who’ve lived it themselves in the past few weeks, most of them not combat MOSs. All of them heroes. I am so damn proud of the men and women who serve this country. They are not without fear. They are brave with it.

This is why we have never ending protests in America White House released the names funding protests and violence in America We pay for our own protests with over $100 million laundered by Democrats "We found a network of NGOs” - George Soros, the Open Society Network - Arabella Funding Network - The Tides Funding Network - Neville Roy Singham and his network - Hansjorg Wyss, a billionaire donor in Switzerland - Additional Foreign Cash - Reid Hoffman (Named by Trump) “It's also big left-wing funders, some of them who are not citizens of this country, Mr. Hansjörg Wyss in Switzerland, they're pouring money into this entire ecosystem." “We have identified dozens of radical organizations, not just the decentralized Antifa organizations, but dozens of radical organizations that have received more than $100 million from the Riot Inc investors.” “I think the most shocking thing is that we have found that more than $100 million in US taxpayer funding has flowed into these funding networks”

Bank of America just agreed to pay $72.5 million for helping Jeffrey Epstein traffic underage girls. The settlement dropped late Friday night. Buried under war headlines and protest coverage. Almost like they planned it that way. And this is literally the FOURTH major bank settlement tied to Epstein's sex trafficking operation. JPMorgan paid $290 million to victims. Then another $75 million to the US Virgin Islands. Deutsche Bank paid $75 million to victims and got hit with a $150 million regulatory fine on top of that. Now Bank of America adds $72.5 million. Total exposed so far: Over $660 million. Number of bankers criminally charged: ZERO. Number of bankers who went to prison: ZERO. Every single settlement came with "no admission of wrongdoing." Every bank said some version of "we regret the association" and moved on. But the court filings tell a very different story: JPMorgan filed suspicious activity reports on Epstein's accounts as early as 2002. Their own compliance team flagged him. They KNEW something was wrong but they kept banking him for 11 more years anyway. When Epstein was alive and actively trafficking girls, JPMorgan flagged $4.3 million in suspicious transactions. After he died in his cell? They retroactively reported $1.3 BILLION in suspicious activity going back to 2003. That's 300 times more than what they reported while he was alive. A Senate investigation found that JPMorgan executives overruled their own compliance officers to keep Epstein as a client. Internal emails show top executives approved continued business with Epstein even AFTER his 2008 conviction because he was bringing in ultra-wealthy referrals. Deutsche Bank picked Epstein up as a client in 2013, the same year JPMorgan finally dropped him. Their own CEO later admitted onboarding him was "a critical mistake that should never have happened." They literally kept him for five more years. Bank of America allegedly didn't file suspicious activity reports on Epstein-linked accounts until AFTER he was dead. The pattern is identical every time: See the red flags. Ignore them. Profit from the relationship. Wait until the client dies or gets arrested. Then file a report. Then write a settlement check. Then say you did nothing wrong. Now think about this... These are the same banks that freeze your business account over a $5,000 wire transfer. The same compliance departments that require endless forms of ID to open a checking account. The same institutions that flag small business owners for "suspicious activity" if they deposit cash from their own customers two weeks in a row. But a convicted sex offender runs hundreds of millions through their systems for DECADES and nobody notices. Nobody reports it. Nobody escalates it. Nobody calls law enforcement. Until he's dead. Then suddenly everyone remembers everything. Senator Wyden called for a criminal investigation. The Treasury Department has thousands of pages of Epstein bank records they still won't release. Congressional investigators say the full picture of what these banks knew hasn't come close to being revealed. $660 million in settlements and fines. But not a single criminal charge against any banker at any institution. That's the system working exactly as designed. I wonder why no one's talking about the files anymore?

Great “trick” to get kids to learn Two groups read the same passage. * Group A was told they'd be tested. * Group B was told they'd have to teach it to another student. Nobody actually taught anything. They were just told they’d have to teach. Group B crushed it. Better recall. Better organization. Advantage concentrated on main points. So just believing they'd have to teach changed how they studied. The researchers' line that stuck with me: students have effective study strategies they simply don't use unless prodded to. So our kids already know how to learn well. They just don't do it when they're told to study for a test. The test framing makes them passive. While teaching makes them active. At @ForgePrep, the highest level of mastery students can demonstrate is teaching another students to competence. It’s part of why we have Montessori mixed age classes as this creates more opportunities for this type of teaching

Senate leadership sent notice of the DHS bill at 12:55am. Then a voice vote was held at 2:19am. The notice said, “with a substitute amendment” and gave no description of the substitute. The legislative language of the substitute was not sent around to GOP Senate staff. (Idk about Dems.) If you’re a staffer watching your email at that hour (some were!) you had to request the language of the bill. Track down leadership staff to find out how quickly this is moving. Try to read and understand it quickly. Understand how it changed from the original. Get your boss on the phone and explain it. Talk to other staffers to figure out if there’s a coalition to block it — they don’t know — their boss is trying to decide what to do too. Whoops, your one hour is up, the bill is passing and nothing you can do. Purposefully sneaky. They can do this kind of maneuver to not fund immigration enforcement. They would never dream of doing it for your priorities.

@DataRepublican @RandPaul The hotline request was at 1am. No one knew it was coming. How many staff would see it and have time to get with their boss to set the wheels in motion? A LOT has to happen logistically in a short window at an inaccessible hour.

I've been holding back on this, but I'm just gonna let loose... So many of these "protestors" here in Asheville NC have had their lives DRAMATICALLY improved by President Trump. Trump's FEMA resolved 80% of ALL open Hurricane Helene cases Biden left sitting 116 days... in 5 DAYS. Trump's DOT gave nearly $2 BILLION to fix roads and bridges in WNC, which is the largest Emergency Relief allocation in federal highway history. Trump's DOT reopened I-40 in 5 months. Everyone said it would take years. Trump's HUD approved $1.4 billion for Helene housing recovery so fast that even Democrat Governor Josh Stein publicly thanked him for it. Trump's USDA delivered $221 million directly to WNC farmers who lost everything. Trump gave NC 6 full months of 100% federal cost coverage — one of the longest in FEMA history. The same people driving on rebuilt roads, drinking clean water, living the comeback... are out here protesting the man who made most of it happen. JUST GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE!!! It's not that hard. He knew you hated him before the storm. He knew that when he landed in Asheville. And guess what? HE SHOWED UP AND HELPED YOU ANYWAYS!!!!!! And today you grabbed your little sign and costumes, got in your little Subaru, you drove on those rebuilt roads, over those rebuilt bridges, passed rebuilt houses and rebuilt parks, to protest a man who helped your city. You look stupid, out of touch, and insanely ungrateful.
