If you are a Protestant who feels the need to deride individual Catholics as members of a Satanic cult who are all going to Hell, know this: many Catholics think YOU are the ones going to Hell. In my journey out of and back to the Roman Catholic Church, I spent YEARS in multiple evangelical "Word Churches," and I promise you that the cults of personality that arise in those churches are every bit as evil and ungodly as anything one sees in the Catholic Church. When you go out of your way to demonize people who belong to the Church founded by Jesus Christ in AD 33, you serve only the purposes of Democrats, who viciously seek to create hatred between Christians as a means to regaining political power. Members of Christian denominations need to respect each other's beliefs, or at least not demonize them, because to do otherwise is to do the bidding of Barack Obama and David Axelrod (who created this crisis of faith intentionally).

I don't understand how, in one breath, our leaders can announce spending $53k/unit for heat upgrades, and then, in the next breath, denounce landlords that can't fix the roofs of buildings where the avg rent is $1500. Something here is fishy.

A few weeks ago, the Mayor of NYC announced a $38 million plan to replace the heat pumps at a local housing development. $38M for 712 units means they are spending $53k per unit. (!) How is this possible...? This math does not make sense.

Removing TPS status for Haitians living in the United States would cost 350,000 workers their ability to work at a time when we’re already facing serious workforce shortages. I’ve heard from healthcare providers and business leaders across Nebraska, including @OmahaChamber, who are concerned about the impact this would have on patient care and our economy. I don’t see the goodness of deporting people who are here legally, working, and contributing to our country.

So basically what will happen is this: >Owners of $5 million+ properties who don't live in NYC full time will immediately look to sell before the tax kicks in... flooding the top end of the market with inventory all at once. >But buyers will factor the new annual fee into what they're willing to pay, meaning sellers can't get what the property was worth before the tax existed, so values at the high end drop. >Some owners won't sell and won't pay...they'll just stop using the property, let it sit, and fight the bill in court for years, which is exactly what wealthy people with expensive lawyers do. >Others will convert their ownership into an LLC or trust structure designed to obscure primary residency status, and the city won't have the staff or resources to unwind thousands of complex real estate holding structures. >Foreign owners, yhe ones the politicians are actually talking about, will simply ignore the bill, because the city has no mechanism to force collection from someone with no US income, no US bank accounts, and ownership held offshore. >The city will collect far less than $500 million because the pool of people who just comply and pay is much smaller than projected, leaving a budget gap that still needs to be filled. >Meanwhile the high end of the real estate market has been spooked, construction financing for luxury developments dries up, and the trickle-down effect hits construction jobs, broker commissions, and the city's existing property tax base. >Albany will eventually water down enforcement to keep the real estate lobby quiet, and what's left is a tax that raises a fraction of what was promised and costs more to administer than anyone budgeted for.
