When Borrowing is Leprosy and cancerous. Mr. President, borrowing is not only a leprosy, but a killer cancer when it is borrowed for consumption and not production as it is in Nigeria today. Borrowing for consumption slowly eats away at the health, reputation, and autonomy of a nation. One of the major “leprosy” afflicting Nigeria today is not just debt, but debt without productivity. Debt that is not tied to measurable economic value. Debt that does not translate into jobs, growth, or improved living standards for the Nigerian people. No serious economy borrows recklessly. Nations borrow with discipline, with purpose, and with a clear plan for repayment through productive investment. Fiscal Responsibility Act 2007 provides that “Any government in the Federation or its agencies and corporations desirous of borrowing shall, specify the purpose for which the borrowing is intended and present a cost-benefit analysis, detailing the economic and social benefits of the purpose to which the intended borrowing is to be applied” Cost-benefit analysis must show how the loan would be applied, how it will impact economic growth and improve the welfare of Nigerian citizens in measurable ways. Most of the borrowings by this government do not satisfy the requirements of law or the requirements of economic common sense. The humongous borrowing so far does not show how the projects for the loans enhance the productive capacity of the nation and the welfare of Nigerian citizens. These loans are also dangerous because they burden the capacity of the Nigerian state to improve the economy in the future, as we have one of the world’s highest debt servicing ratios. What matters is not debt-GDP as much as debt-debt servicing ratio because the latter constrains our capacity to finance the sectors that drive human development and economic growth. If the money is wrongly spent as we do in Nigeria currently, it becomes double jeopardy because you are using current revenue to service debts that did not add to revenue or improve capacity for more production in the future. A responsible government does not merely defend borrowing; it explains it, justifies it, and most importantly, ensures it works for the people. A new Nigeria is POssible. -PO

“NO LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER HAS THE POWER TO ACT AS PROSECUTOR, JUDGE, AND EXECUTIONER” The Nigerian Bar Association is disturbed by the viral video showing the extrajudicial killing of a suspect by police officers in Delta State, as well as the subsequent confirmation by the Police Public Relations Officer that those involved will be tried for murder. This is an arbitrary, unprovoked and misguided show of power by a law enforcement agent. Not only did the act clearly show that the policeman took the law into his hands but portrayed the Nigerian Police Force in a bad light. The sordid act once more put under the spotlight the unceasing allegations I that law policemen routinely violate the rights of criminal suspects and even innocent persons. The NBA unequivocally condemns this act. No officer of the law, regardless of rank or circumstance, has the right to act as prosecutor, judge, and executioner. The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is clear that every person is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction. Regrettably, many law enforcement and executive functionaries fail to abide by the terms of the laws which set them up as well as regulate their actions, but this is not always the case. They continue to act in manner which must not be encouraged in all decent societies. Some of such actions are usually unconstitutional, illegal and unlawful infringement on the right of individualsIf such unlawful actions by the security agencies continue unchecked, fundamental rights of people may not amount to much in such a climate of impunity. No society should allow such action to go unpunished. The gravity of the offence captured in that video strikes at the very heart of our humanity, the rule of law, and the constitutional guarantees of the right to life and dignity of the human person. It is s worrisome that in this 21st century, a policeman will summarily execute an alleged robber in a devil-may-care attitude. More worrisome is the fact that the summary execution was carried out in full public glare in grave violation of laws regulating the treatment of a criminal suspect or alleged thief. While we commend the Police for condemning and arresting the main perpetrator, but this is not enough. The viral video clearly shows that other policemen aided or were involved in this heinous act. The investigation, arrest and prosecution process must extend to any other officer may have counselled aided or abetted the extra-judicial killing as they all will be jointly liable for the heinous act. We therefore call for the immediate prosecution and trial of all officers involved in this heinous act. Any attempt to shield, delay, or dilute accountability in this matter will further erode public confidence in law enforcement institutions and will be firmly resisted by the Bar. We demand that the prosecution be conducted with full transparency and urgency. The Nigerian people deserve to see that the law applies equally to all, including those entrusted with its enforcement. We hereby direct the Human Rights Committees of the NBA in Warri, Effurun and Udu in Delta State to continue to confront such matters as well as monitor the sequence of events to ensure that this matter is properly investigated and prosecuted. In furtherance of this, the NBA Human Rights Committee and Civil Liberties Committee are hereby directed to closely monitor allegations of violations of citizens rights in any other place, engage with relevant authorities, and take all necessary legal and institutional steps to ensure that justice is diligently pursued and ultimately served. We reiterate our strong deprecation of this unsavoury conduct. It must stop. We must rise to ensure this and similar recklessness acts, stop. The bad policemen in the Force must be shown the way out to avoid giving it a bad name.

UPDATE ON THE MURDER OF ABDULSAMAD JAMIU -29 April 2026 Following the visit of a military delegation to the family, a military police investigative unit has since been deployed to the scene. The investigators conducted formal interrogations of all key witnesses, including the sister of the deceased, the parents, neighbours, and members of the community vigilante group. It was during these interrogations that a deeply disturbing detail emerged. The vigilante members revealed that after they had been directed to mop up Abdulsamad’s blood, they were further instructed by the soldiers to bury the remnants of his shattered skull and brain matter in the backyard of the family’s home. The vigilantes led the investigative team to the exact location in the backyard where these remains were buried. We wish to be clear about what this means: the remains of our son’s head were buried in the ground of his own home like refuse, without the knowledge or consent of his family. The investigative team has given the family their assurance that the investigation will be thorough and that it will continue until answers and justice are delivered. The family acknowledges this commitment and will be watching its fulfilment closely. The family of Abdulsamad Jamiu wishes to use this moment to express profound and heartfelt gratitude to every Nigerian who has taken up this cause and refused to let it be buried alongside our son. To the media houses who gave our grief a voice and our truth a platform — thank you. To community and political leaders who have stood with us and spoken up — thank you. To the friends of Abdulsamad, who have kept his name alive and reminded the world that he was loved — thank you. And to every individual who shared, commented, prayed, and demanded accountability on our behalf — you have not done so in vain. The family remains resolute. The investigation is ongoing. Justice for Abdulsamad is non-negotiable. — The Family of Abdulsamad Jamiu #JusticeForAbdulsamad #JusticeForSamad

UPDATE ON THE MURDER OF ABDULSAMAD JAMIU This morning, 27 April 2026, representatives from HQ Nigerian Army, led by Brigadier S. O. Buhari, visited the family to offer condolences and to inspect the scene of the incident. During the visit, they stated that they were unaware the house was fenced and that the room where the shooting occurred was located downstairs. This contradicts their earlier claim suggesting the death resulted from a “stray bullet.” The delegation expressed condolences and assured the family that the officers involved would be investigated and held accountable. The family has formally demanded the retraction of the initial statement and a public apology for what they consider an insult to the memory of their son. Although there was a promise to delete the statement, the family made it clear that trust has already been undermined, especially given that some military personnel had visited the scene the yesterday before issuing the statement in question. We reiterate our demand that those responsible for the killing of Abdulsalam Jamiu be brought to justice. This was not an accident. He was in his home; military men entered the premises, approached his room, and shot him through the door. Twice. This was not a mistake.

Delta State Police Command and POS Operators are 5&6. This happened at C Division Asaba where they have stationed POS operators that help launder money from daily collections. The DPO and all his men are aware of this evil trend. Now where’s that Delta Police PRO Bright Edefe?? You see ehh!! Delta state Most likely houses some of the worst version of police men in Nigeria and this is not up for a debate

La Liga is supporting Atlético Madrid in the Champions League. Ligue 1 is supporting Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. Bundesliga is supporting Bayern Munich in the Champions League. No football club is supporting Arsenal in the Champions League including our England brothers, instead they are ganging up against Arsenal. Is alright, God go shame all of you this time.

You shouldn’t have let it slide. You should have demanded the greeting or she leaves your shop. Just say “haba, you can’t even greet?” Use your privilege to teach her courtesy. We are Africans. If she frown face, send her into the rain. Ma gba igbakugba

She came to my shop yesterday to dodge for rain without even greeting when the rain was about to stop she wanted to be going not until the rain was still draining. Our eyes eventually caught each other but I just stood my ground not to offer her a sit just because she doesn't know how to utter a greeting.
