HR disqualified me mid interview after hearing I was interviewing with another client. Why? Already in my second round Zoom interview for an Operations Manager role. The interview was going well until she asked, "Are you currently interviewing elsewhere?" I said yes and mentioned I was in the first rounds with other clients. Facial expression changed. Said, "We prefer candidates who are genuinely interested in our company." Then added, "In that case we'll let you pursue those other opportunities." Wished me well in my feature endeavours. Call ended. Just like that. Was going to say how genuinely interested I was but was not given a chance to do that. Sat with my laptop open staring at the ended call for a full minute. Because the honest question that kept coming back to me was this - are we really still in an era where a company expects a candidate to be exclusively devoted to them before an offer has even been made? Before a contract exists? Before anything has been signed or agreed? Like is it not normal to interview with multiple companies when job hunting? It is not like talking to one company at a time guarantees you will get the offer. Is this just me or has this happened to you too?
