@Nobleshield I ultimately found a lot of the discourse to be distracting. If you focus on running the best game you can, I think that's the most fruitful. You'll feel it when you think there's a better way, then you can go research the specific topic.

Thinking I need a break from RPG Twitter. Simply because it's pulling me in a million different directions when I read people talking about stuff, and I'm not actually doing anything for my own games as I keep churning ideas and what I could/should do. I'm going to focus on running my campaign using what I know based on my own experiences and what I think will be fun, and adjust from there. Some folks may not agree but ultimately if my friends are having a good time and enjoying the campaign that's all I care about.

Pacing. To run a campaign for over 100 sessions, I think in terms of tiers of play. Tier 1 characters deal with local problems. Each tier sees an escalation of conflict in the world. I've found high level play scales just fine when conflict scales with level.

Investment. How do you get players invested in your campaign? Character backstories? Player contributions to worldbuilding? Player vs. Player components? For me, investment is forged when the players become emotionally invested in the other player characters.

Definitely pleased by that panel. Just last night I ran an adventure for 3 newer players who are looking to get deep into some long-term campaigns. Utter delight, they were marvelous, and can't wait to see where their adventures takes us.

Counterpoint to the Matt Mercer hate. @Jesswhitecomic created his own game. Ran a one-on-one session for me. I also spectated one. Jesse delivers Mercer levels of quality, but old school. Some people strive for greatness in all they do. Jesse does. Why not level up your game?

Why one might watch live play D&D When I started, I had questions not addressed in the PHB or DMG. I went to YouTube. Even cringe videos were beneficial, they clarified what I did & didn't like. More importantly, they sparked my imagination & showed me the game's potential
