Earlier this month, we made space for youth to learn more about mental health. The conversations brought students and community members together to share stories, reflect on their experiences, and explore practical ways to prioritize mental health in everyday life. As part of our World Mental Health Day event, we got a chance to feature our initial SlimmDuck Scholarship awardee as a speaker, which was a heartwarming moment for our organization.

Pas d’équipe. This summer, the SlimmDuck Foundation teamed up with Full Court 21 for their Montreal stop — providing Toronto Raptors hats as gifts and prizes for participants. 🏀 Full Court 21, created by cultural icon Bobbito Garcia and operated by Will Strickland and Bang Lee, is a global streetball tournament where players compete solo, full-court, to 21. No teammates. Highlighting our World Mental Health Day workshop! 🖤 Led by Ayan Art, the Art & Mindfulness Workshop provided the youth with a great opportunity to be introspective while also collaborating with their peers. Students created individual boards with words and crafts, then presented their boards about what it meant to them, along with select groups sharing their highlights.

Looking back at World Mental Health Day! Last Friday, the SlimmDuck Foundation — in collaboration with Toronto Metropolitan University’s Chang School and Smile for Sache — hosted a youth event in recognition of World Mental Health Day at TMU’s Jet Ice Lounge. Designed for high school students, the event created space for meaningful conversations about the intersection of mental health, sports, and community. Two TMU students, recipients of the SlimmDuck Scholarship and the Adan Dubet Law School Award, shared inspiring stories of resilience, balance, and purpose. The day also featured a creative mindfulness workshop by Ayan Art and a panel discussion with leaders from the @CMHAToronto, Jhanelle Peters Psychotherapy, the @KickbackFdn, and @Findhelp211 — highlighting how collaboration drives real change for youth well-being as well as sharing practical tools to equip youths to access the mental health resources they need and deserve.
