Trump takes the oath today. Expect him to start breaking it immediately.  Trump was a disaster the first time. And this is the kind of movie where the sequel is worse than the original. As Democrats, how we fight back will define who we are. 🧵

Governor Evers fought on issues that mattered to working people, in rural areas and cities and small towns and suburbs, across race and ethnicity. And he—and unions, and our grassroots allies, and all of us at @WisDems—communicated everywhere, all the time. It worked. He won.

Governor Evers defeated Scott Walker (and then ‘22 GOP candidate Tim Michels) by making a case based on things that mattered directly in voters’ lives. Roads. Schools. Health care. Control over their own bodies. Issues voters care about, because they live them every day.

Just two years later, with health care as the biggest issue in the 2018 elections, we took back the House, elected a bunch of Dem governors, and made critical gains across the country.

Trump tries to project invulnerability. But remember this. On his number one legislative priority in his first term, he failed. Because we beat him.  We stopped Trump's assault on the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid. Through organizing, storytelling, and coalition building, we protected health care for millions of Americans.

Let’s mobilize AND persuade. Let’s go where non-political folks are paying attention—and on offense on conservative media. All while building up a progressive media ecosystem.  If voters only learn about Democrats from Republicans, we will lose. If we tell our own story, we can win.

The "eggs are bankrupting my family" discourse of 2024 was a perfect reminder that partisanship truly makes some people blind to reality. Problem is, reality still exists.
